Connecticut to North Dakota Auto Transport

Shipping a Car From Connecticut to North Dakota

Hartford to Fargo is about 1,510 miles, west on I-80 to Chicago and then up I-94 through Wisconsin and Minnesota. Bismarck is closer to 1,705, and Williston is around 1,935. It's three to four long days of driving.

Most of our Connecticut-to-North Dakota moves are military or energy. Airmen and families head to Minot AFB and Grand Forks AFB, and workers go to the Bakken oil fields around Williston and Watford City. We also ship for students at NDSU and UND and families heading home to the Dakotas.

Door-to-door, a final-price quote, and $0 due at booking.

The Route

How Cars Get From Connecticut to North Dakota

Carriers take I-84 and I-80 to Chicago, then I-94 through Madison and Minneapolis into Fargo. From there, Bismarck and Dickinson are farther west on I-94, and Grand Forks is north on I-29.

Minot is north of Bismarck on US-83, and Williston is in the far northwest on US-2 or US-85. Not many trucks run this route, so loads are often combined with Minnesota stops.

Along the Way

  • Hartford → Chicago~865 mi
  • Chicago → Minneapolis~410 mi
  • Minneapolis → Fargo~235 mi
  • Fargo → Bismarck~195 mi

Approximate distances. The exact route depends on the carrier's other stops.

Timing

When to Ship Connecticut to North Dakota

North Dakota winters set the rules on this route.

Winter

Blizzards, whiteouts, and subzero cold can close I-94 and I-29 for days. Leave plenty of slack from November through March.

Spring Load Limits

During the thaw, many smaller roads have weight limits for trucks. Meeting near a main highway keeps things on time.

Summer PCS Season

Summer is the busiest time for Minot and Grand Forks moves. Book as soon as you have orders.

Fall

Usually the best time to ship, before winter sets in.

Pricing

How Much Does It Cost to Ship a Car From Connecticut to North Dakota?

North Dakota is a long way off the main truck lanes. Here's what affects the price.

Distance

Fargo is about 1,510 miles from Hartford. The Bakken is closer to 1,950.

Fewer Trucks

Not many carriers run Connecticut to North Dakota, so pricing has to be enough to get one to commit.

Season

Winter costs more and takes longer. Summer and early fall are usually the best value.

Open or Enclosed

Open is the standard. Enclosed keeps road salt and gravel off a nicer car.

Vehicle Size

Pickups and full-size SUVs take more trailer space than sedans, so they cost more to ship.

Date Flexibility

A wider pickup window gives us a real shot at the few trucks headed your way.

Your Quote Is Your Final Price

A low quote that no driver will take just leaves your car sitting. Ours is priced to move, it's your final price, and $0 is due at booking.

Good to Know

Before You Ship & After You Arrive

A few North Dakota-specific things worth knowing.

Registering in North Dakota

New residents title and register with the NDDOT. North Dakota doesn't require a safety or emissions inspection. Check dot.nd.gov for current requirements and deadlines.

Moving With the Military

We ship for airmen, sailors, and families moving from New England posts to Minot AFB and Grand Forks AFB.

Oil Patch Deliveries

Williston, Watford City, and Dickinson are served regularly, but lease roads aren't truck-friendly. Plan to meet in town.

Connecticut Pickups

Narrow streets in older parts of Hartford and New Haven, shoreline beach roads, and condo or HOA rules in Fairfield County can keep a carrier off your street. If so, the driver will set up a nearby meeting spot, usually a lot just off I-95, I-84, or I-91.

The Process

How It Works

Simple, transparent, and nothing due until a carrier is on the way.

  1. 1

    Request Your Quote

Give us your Connecticut pickup address, your North Dakota delivery address, the vehicle, and your dates. You get a final price, good for 7 days.

  2. 2

    Book With $0 Down

Nothing is due when you book. We match your vehicle with a vetted carrier that has room on a truck headed to North Dakota.

  3. 3

    Carrier Dispatched

Once a carrier is assigned, a deposit (or full payment, if you prefer) secures your spot. The driver inspects your car with you at pickup and notes its condition on the Bill of Lading.

  4. 4

    Delivered & Inspected

Look your car over with the driver in North Dakota, sign off, and pay any remaining balance directly to the driver by cash or check.
