The Route
How Cars Get From Delaware to Kentucky
Most carriers head down I-95 toward Washington, cut west on I-66 to I-81, and pick up I-64 at Staunton. From there, I-64 runs across West Virginia through Charleston into Lexington and Louisville.
Fort Knox is just south of Louisville, and Bowling Green and Fort Campbell are farther down I-65 and I-24. Some trucks take the Pennsylvania Turnpike and I-71 through Cincinnati instead.

Timing
When to Ship Delaware to Kentucky
Army moves and mountain weather shape this route.
Summer PCS Season
May through August is the peak for Fort Campbell and Fort Knox moves. Book as soon as you have orders.
Mountain Winter
Snow and ice on I-64 over the Alleghenies in Virginia and West Virginia can slow trucks from December through February.
Derby Week
Early May brings huge crowds to Louisville. Deliveries near Churchill Downs go smoother outside Derby week.
Fall
Usually smooth. Keeneland's fall meet makes Lexington busy in October.
Pricing
How Much Does It Cost to Ship a Car From Delaware to Kentucky?
Here's what affects the price on this route.
Distance
The Bluegrass is about 600 miles from Wilmington. Western Kentucky is closer to 900.
Delivery Area
Louisville, Lexington, and the bases are easy. Eastern Kentucky's hills take more planning.
Season
Summer PCS moves raise demand. Fall and winter are often cheaper.
Open or Enclosed
Open is the standard. Enclosed keeps road salt off a nicer car.
Vehicle Size
Pickups and full-size SUVs take more trailer space than sedans, so they cost more to ship.
Date Flexibility
A flexible window lets us catch a truck already heading west.

Before You Ship & After You Arrive
A few Kentucky-specific things worth knowing.
Registering in Kentucky
New residents have 30 days to title and register at the county clerk's office. Out-of-state vehicles need a quick inspection by the county sheriff first. Check drive.ky.gov for current requirements.
Horse Country Deliveries
Farm lanes around Lexington are often private and narrow. The driver may meet you at the road or in town.
Moving With the Military
We ship for soldiers, airmen, and families moving from Dover AFB and other Delmarva posts to Fort Campbell and Fort Knox.
Delaware Pickups
Narrow streets in older parts of Wilmington, summer crowds in Rehoboth and Bethany, and HOA rules in Sussex County communities can keep a carrier off your street. If so, the driver will set up a nearby meeting spot, usually a lot just off I-95, DE-1, or US-13.
