Shipping a Car From Alabama to Kentucky
Kentucky is closer than people think. Huntsville to Bowling Green is about 175 miles, and Birmingham to Louisville is around 365. It's an easy day on I-65, but easy doesn't mean you want to spend it driving when you've got a move to manage.
We see a lot of military traffic on this route, with soldiers and families heading to Fort Knox and Fort Campbell on the Tennessee line. We also ship cars for job moves to Louisville and Lexington, students at UK, UofL, and Western Kentucky, and a steady stream of Corvette owners. Bowling Green is where they're built, and plenty of owners want theirs delivered there in one piece.
Door-to-door, a final-price quote, and $0 due at booking.

The Route
How Cars Get From Alabama to Kentucky
I-65 does most of the work. It runs straight north from Birmingham through Nashville and crosses into Kentucky just south of Bowling Green, then continues past Elizabethtown and Fort Knox into Louisville.
Lexington and eastern Kentucky are a little different. Some carriers cut over from I-65 on the parkways, while others come up I-75 through Chattanooga and Knoxville. Western Kentucky deliveries to Paducah usually take I-24 from Nashville. Eastern Kentucky mountain towns are reachable, but winding two-lane roads mean the driver may meet you somewhere easier.
Along the Way
- Birmingham → Nashville~190 mi
- Nashville → Bowling Green~65 mi
- Bowling Green → Elizabethtown~70 mi
- Elizabethtown → Louisville~45 mi

Timing
When to Ship Alabama to Kentucky
It's a short trip, but a few times of year are trickier than others.
Derby Season
The first week of May brings big crowds and road closures around Louisville. If you're delivering there, avoid Derby week if you can.
Spring Storms
Tornado warnings and heavy rain are common in both states in spring. Carriers pull over for severe weather.
Summer
Peak moving season and peak PCS season for Fort Knox and Fort Campbell. Request your quote a week or two ahead.
Winter
Kentucky gets more ice than snow, and ice can shut roads down fast. Leave a day of flexibility from December through February.
Pricing
How Much Does It Cost to Ship a Car From Alabama to Kentucky?
Short routes cost less overall, but these still swing the price.
Distance
Huntsville to Bowling Green is under 200 miles. Mobile to Louisville is more than three times that.
I-65 vs. Off the Interstate
Cities along I-65 are the fastest to schedule. Eastern Kentucky mountain towns take more planning.
Date Flexibility
A lot of trucks on this short lane are passing through on longer runs. Flexibility helps us catch one.
Open or Enclosed
Open is the standard. Enclosed is the usual pick for Corvettes, classics, and anything you'd hate to see a rock chip on.
Vehicle Size
Full-size trucks and SUVs take more trailer space than sedans, so they cost a bit more.
Running Condition
Non-running vehicles need a winch to load. Mention it when you request your quote.
Your Quote Is Your Final Price
Your quote is the final price. It doesn't change after you book, and nothing is due until a carrier is assigned.
