Shipping a Car From Massachusetts to Connecticut

Boston to Hartford is about 100 miles, out the Pike and down I-84. Springfield to Hartford is only around 25, Worcester to Storrs about 45, Boston to Storrs close to 85, Mystic roughly 105, New Haven about 140, Stamford around 180, and Hyannis to Greenwich near 220. Most cars arrive the same day as pickup.

Massachusetts to Connecticut is a next-door trip. People book it when they're moving across the line with two cars, sending a car to a student at Yale, UConn, or Wesleyan, or buying a car in the other state. Traffic and timing matter far more than miles here.

The Route

How Cars Get From Massachusetts to Connecticut

Hartford is a straight run down the Mass Pike and I-84 from Boston and Worcester, and only half an hour down I-91 from Springfield. New Haven is south of Hartford on I-91.

Mystic and the shoreline are reached on I-95 through Providence. Stamford and Greenwich are at the far end of Connecticut, where I-95 traffic toward New York decides how long the last stretch takes.

Along the Way

  • Boston → Sturbridge~60 mi
  • Sturbridge → Hartford~40 mi

Approximate distances. The exact route depends on the carrier's other stops.

Timing

When to Ship Massachusetts to Connecticut

On a trip this short, traffic and timing matter most.

Boston Traffic

I-93, the Mass Pike, and Route 128 back up badly at rush hour. Drivers schedule Massachusetts pickups around it.

I-95 Through Fairfield County

Stamford and Greenwich traffic backs up badly at rush hour. Drivers time the run around it.

College Move-In

Late August and early September are busy around Yale, UConn, and Wesleyan. Book early.

Nor'easters

From December through March, a nor'easter can delay a Massachusetts pickup a day or more. If one is in the forecast, we'll plan around it.

Pricing

How Much Does It Cost to Ship a Car From Massachusetts to Connecticut?

On a trip this short, distance hardly matters to the price.

Short-Haul Pricing

Loading takes the same time on a 100-mile trip as a long one, so per-mile rates run higher.

Hartford vs. Fairfield County

Hartford and Storrs are a quick run. Stamford and Greenwich add I-95 traffic.

Pickup Location

Springfield and Worcester are closest. Boston and the Cape add an hour or two.

Fairfield County Streets

Greenwich, Darien, and Westport have narrow, winding roads and private lanes.

Open or Enclosed

Open is standard. Enclosed is available for classics.

Multiple Cars

Moving two vehicles? One carrier can often take both.

Good to Know

Before You Ship & After You Arrive

What to know before your car heads to Connecticut.

Registering in Connecticut

New residents have 60 days to register with the CT DMV. Out-of-state vehicles need a VIN verification, and most cars need an emissions test every two years. Check portal.ct.gov/dmv for current requirements. Snowbirds who stay Connecticut residents just keep their Connecticut registration.

Shoreline Towns

Narrow streets in Mystic, Stonington, and other shoreline villages can't fit a carrier. Plan to meet on US-1 or at a lot nearby.

Connecticut Emissions

Most vehicles four years and older need an emissions test every two years.

Worcester and MetroWest Pickups

Worcester, Framingham, Marlborough, and the I-495 towns are some of the easiest pickups in the state, close to the Mass Pike and I-290. Older triple-decker neighborhoods can be tight, and some newer subdivisions have HOA truck rules, but the driver can usually meet you nearby without much trouble.

The Process

How It Works

Simple, transparent, and nothing due until a carrier is on the way.

  1. 1

    Request Your Quote

Give us your Massachusetts pickup address, your Connecticut delivery address, the vehicle, and your dates. You get a final price, good for 7 days.

  2. 2

    Book With $0 Down

Nothing is due when you book. We match your vehicle with a vetted carrier that has room on a truck headed to Connecticut.

  3. 3

    Carrier Dispatched

Once a carrier is assigned, a deposit (or full payment, if you prefer) secures your spot. The driver inspects your car with you at pickup and notes its condition on the Bill of Lading.

  4. 4

    Delivered & Inspected

Look your car over with the driver in Connecticut, sign off, and pay any remaining balance directly to the driver by cash or check.

FAQ

Massachusetts to Connecticut Car Shipping FAQs

How long does it take to ship a car from Massachusetts to Connecticut?

Usually the same day as pickup.

How much does it cost to ship a car from Massachusetts to Connecticut?

It depends on your exact addresses, the vehicle, open or enclosed, and the season. Request a quote for a final price, good for 7 days.

Why ship a car such a short distance?

If you're moving two cars with one driver, shipping one saves a round trip. It's also handy for buying a car across the state line.

Can you deliver to a student at Yale or UConn?

Yes. We'll set up a meeting spot near campus and avoid move-in weekend when possible.

Can you pick up on Cape Cod?

Yes. Weekday pickups are easier in summer, when the bridges back up.

Can you ship a car from Connecticut back to Massachusetts?

Yes. Request a quote with your Connecticut pickup address and your Massachusetts delivery address. It's door-to-door either way.

Is my car insured during transport?

Yes. Every carrier we work with is required to carry active cargo insurance. Your car's condition is documented on the Bill of Lading at pickup and checked again at delivery. Personal items left in the vehicle aren't covered.

Do I have to pay upfront?

No. There's $0 due at booking. Once a carrier is assigned, you can pay a deposit and the rest to the driver at delivery by cash or check, or pay in full at that point.
