The Route
How Cars Get From California to Connecticut
Most Southern California loads take I-40 east through Flagstaff and Albuquerque to Oklahoma City, then I-44 to St. Louis and I-70 through Indianapolis and Columbus. In Pennsylvania they head to Harrisburg and take I-81 and I-84 into Connecticut.
Bay Area loads usually go straight across on I-80 through Reno, Salt Lake City, and Chicago. Fairfield County and shoreline deliveries come in on I-95, which is some of the slowest highway in the country, so the driver will call ahead with a realistic time.

Timing
When to Ship California to Connecticut
Coast-to-coast moves deal with every kind of weather.
Winter
Snow near Flagstaff, in the Midwest, and in New England can slow trucks from December through March. Expect a wider window.
Summer PCS Season
Summer is the busiest time for Navy moves to Groton and Coast Guard moves to New London. Book as soon as you have orders.
Late August Move-In
Yale and UConn move in at the end of August. Ship early so the car is there when you are.
Spring & Fall
Usually the easiest time to ship across the country.
Pricing
How Much Does It Cost to Ship a Car From California to Connecticut?
Here's what moves the price on a coast-to-coast shipment.
Distance
At roughly 2,850 to 3,000 miles, this is one of the longest routes we run.
Delivery Area
Suburban addresses are easy. Dense neighborhoods in New Haven and Bridgeport may need a meeting spot.
Season
Summer and winter are the busiest. Spring and fall are usually the best value.
Open or Enclosed
Open is the standard. Enclosed keeps a nicer car protected across the country.
Vehicle Size
Pickups and full-size SUVs take more trailer space than sedans, so they cost more to ship.
Date Flexibility
A flexible pickup window gives us more trucks to choose from.
Your Quote Is Your Final Price

Before You Ship & After You Arrive
A few Connecticut-specific things worth knowing.
Registering in Connecticut
New residents have 60 days to register with the Connecticut DMV, and most cars need an emissions test. Some out-of-state vehicles also need a VIN verification. Check portal.ct.gov/dmv for current requirements.
Moving With the Navy and Coast Guard
We ship for submariners and families moving from San Diego to Groton, and for Coast Guard members heading to the Academy in New London.
California Pickups
Tight streets, permit parking, and big apartment complexes in LA, San Francisco, and San Diego can keep a carrier off your block. If so, the driver will set up a nearby meeting spot.
Plan for a Gap
With 7 to 10 days in transit, you'll get there first. Budget for a rental or rideshare for the first week.
