Idaho to Utah Auto Transport
Shipping a Car From Idaho to Utah
Idaho Falls to Salt Lake City is only about 210 miles down I-15. Boise to Salt Lake City is closer to 340, and Boise to St. George is around 640. Most of these moves are a single day of driving.
Idaho and Utah are about as connected as two states get. College students move between BYU-Idaho in Rexburg, BYU in Provo, Utah State in Logan, and the University of Utah every semester. Families live on both sides of the line, and Idahoans spend winters in St. George. We also ship for tech workers moving between Boise and the Silicon Slopes, and people buying cars from the huge Wasatch Front dealer market.
Door-to-door, a final-price quote, and $0 due at booking.

Timing
When to Ship Idaho to Utah
The school calendar runs a lot of this route.
Semester Changes
BYU-Idaho, BYU, and Utah State moves cluster around the start and end of each semester. Book a week or two ahead.
Mountain Winter
Snow on I-15 near Malad and I-84 near Snowville can slow trucks for a day from November through March.
Fall Move South
October and November are popular with Idahoans heading to St. George for the winter.
Summer
Usually the smoothest time to ship.
Pricing
How Much Does It Cost to Ship a Car From Idaho to Utah?
This is a short route, so pricing works a little differently.
Distance
Northern Utah is only 110 to 350 miles from most of Idaho. St. George is closer to 650.
Short-Haul Pricing
Short trips cost more per mile than cross-country ones, since loading and unloading take the same time either way.
A Busy Corridor
I-15 and I-84 carry trucks between Idaho and Utah every day, which keeps prices competitive.
Delivery Area
The Wasatch Front and St. George are easy. Canyon homes and ski towns take more planning in winter.
Vehicle Size
Pickups and full-size SUVs take more trailer space than sedans, so they cost more to ship.
Date Flexibility
A flexible window helps around semester changes.

Before You Ship & After You Arrive
A few Utah-specific things worth knowing.
Registering in Utah
New residents have 60 days to register with the Utah DMV. Out-of-state vehicles need a VIN inspection, and several Wasatch Front counties require emissions testing. Check dmv.utah.gov for current requirements.
Student Moves
Moving between BYU-Idaho, BYU, Utah State, or the U? Give us the apartment address and move-in date and we'll plan around it.
Bought a Car on the Wasatch Front?
Salt Lake City and Utah County have a huge dealer market. We can pick up there and bring the car home to Idaho.
Idaho Pickups
Long gravel ranch lanes, steep mountain driveways in places like Ketchum and McCall, and HOA truck rules in newer Treasure Valley subdivisions can keep a big carrier off your street. If so, the driver will set up a nearby meeting spot, usually a lot just off I-84, I-15, I-86, I-90, or US-95.

Usually 1 to 2 days after pickup. Eastern Idaho to Salt Lake City is often same-day or next-day.
How much does it cost to ship a car from Idaho to Utah?
It depends on your exact pickup and delivery locations, vehicle size, open or enclosed transport, and the season. Request a free quote and you'll get a final price, good for 7 days.
Why ship a car such a short distance?
If you're a student without a second driver, moving two cars, or buying a car in Utah, shipping saves a round trip.
Does Utah require an emissions test?
In several Wasatch Front counties, yes. Out-of-state vehicles also need a VIN inspection when you register.
Can you ship a car from Rexburg to Provo at the end of the semester?
Yes. That's one of the most common moves on this route. Book a week or two ahead of finals.
Can you ship a car from Utah back to Idaho?
Yes. Request a quote with your Utah pickup address and your Idaho delivery address. Every shipment is door-to-door.
Is my car insured during transport?
Yes. Every carrier we work with must carry active cargo insurance. Your car's condition is recorded on the Bill of Lading at pickup and checked again at delivery. Personal items left in the car aren't covered.
Do I have to pay upfront?
No. There's $0 due at booking. Once a carrier is assigned, you can pay a deposit and the balance to the driver at delivery by cash or check, or pay in full at that point.
