The Route
How Cars Get From Nebraska to Michigan
Michigan loads take I-80 east across Iowa and Illinois to Chicago, then I-94 around the bottom of Lake Michigan to Kalamazoo, Ann Arbor, and Detroit. Grand Rapids is up I-196, and Lansing is reached on I-96.
Traverse City is another two and a half hours north of Grand Rapids. Carriers don't use the Lake Michigan ferries, so every trip goes around through Chicago.

- Chicago → Detroit~285 mi
Approximate distances. The exact route depends on the carrier's other stops.
Timing
When to Ship Nebraska to Michigan
Winter around the Great Lakes sets the timing.
Nebraska Winter
From December through February, blowing snow on I-80 and ice around Omaha can push a pickup back a day. We'll plan around the forecast.
Lake-Effect Snow
West Michigan gets heavy lake-effect snow. It can slow deliveries a day.
Up North Summer
Traverse City and the lakeshore fill up in July. Weekday delivery is easier.
Fall
Usually the smoothest window.
Pricing

Before You Ship & After You Arrive
What to know before your car heads to Michigan.
Registering in Michigan
New residents should title and register with the Secretary of State as soon as they move. Michigan doesn't require a safety or emissions inspection. Check michigan.gov/sos for current requirements.
Cabins Up North
Two-track roads and steep lake drives aren't safe for a loaded carrier. Plan to meet in town or on a paved road.
Michigan Registration
Michigan has no safety or emissions inspection. New residents title and register at a Secretary of State office.
Omaha Area Pickups
Older Omaha neighborhoods like Dundee, Benson, and the Old Market have narrow streets and tight parking that a full-size car hauler can't fit. Western suburbs like Millard, Elkhorn, and Gretna are usually easier, though many subdivisions have HOA truck rules. If your street won't work, the driver will meet you at a lot near I-80 or I-680.
