Alabama to Michigan Auto Transport
Shipping a Car From Alabama to Michigan
Birmingham to Detroit is about 725 miles north through Nashville, Louisville, and Ohio. It's a long day plus a little, and the last stretch usually involves construction barrels somewhere on I-75.
There's a lot of back-and-forth between these two states. Both build cars, so we see engineers and plant workers moving between Alabama's auto plants and Detroit-area automakers and suppliers. We also ship cars to students at Michigan and Michigan State, families moving to Grand Rapids, and collectors. Michigan has some of the most serious car people in the country, and they care how their classic gets there.
Door-to-door, a final-price quote, and $0 due at booking.

The Route
How Cars Get From Alabama to Michigan
For Detroit and Ann Arbor, trucks usually run I-65 to Louisville, cut over to Cincinnati, and take I-75 north through Dayton and Toledo. Ann Arbor is a short hop up US-23 from Toledo.
West Michigan is reached a different way. Grand Rapids, Kalamazoo, and Lansing deliveries stay on I-65 to Indianapolis and head north on I-69 or US-131. Northern Michigan and the Upper Peninsula are a long way past that. U.P. deliveries cross the Mackinac Bridge, which can restrict big trucks in high winds.

Timing
When to Ship Alabama to Michigan
Michigan's seasons affect more than the weather. Here's what to expect.
Winter
Lake-effect snow pounds west Michigan, and the whole state gets cold and icy. Expect a wider delivery window from December through March.
Spring Weight Limits
Michigan puts seasonal weight restrictions on many roads during the spring thaw. Rural deliveries may need a meeting spot on a main road.
Summer
Peak moving season, peak construction season, and car show season. Request your quote a week or two ahead.
Fall
Usually the smoothest time to ship. Book before the snow if you're headed to northern Michigan.
Pricing
How Much Does It Cost to Ship a Car From Alabama to Michigan?
Here's what makes the biggest difference in price on this route.
Distance
Huntsville to Detroit is about 650 miles. Northern Michigan and the U.P. add hundreds more.
Lower vs. Northern Michigan
Metro Detroit, Ann Arbor, Lansing, and Grand Rapids are easy to reach. Up North and the U.P. take more time to schedule.
Season
Winter weather and spring weight limits both affect rural deliveries. Summer adds demand.
Open or Enclosed
Open is the standard. Enclosed is the usual pick for collector cars and keeps Michigan road salt off anything nice.
Vehicle Size
Full-size trucks and SUVs take more trailer space than sedans, so they cost a bit more to ship.
Date Flexibility
I-75 and I-65 are busy truck corridors. A flexible window helps us put your car on one already headed north.
Your Quote Is Your Final Price
The price we quote is the price you pay. We don't raise it after you book, and nothing is due until a carrier is assigned.

Before You Ship & After You Arrive
A few Michigan-specific things worth knowing.
Registering in Michigan
Michigan expects new residents to title and register promptly through the Secretary of State. You'll need Michigan no-fault auto insurance first. Michigan doesn't require safety or emissions inspections. Check michigan.gov/sos for details.
Collector & Classic Cars
Shipping a classic to a buyer, a show, or a new garage in Michigan? Enclosed transport keeps it covered and clean the whole way.
Road Salt
Michigan uses a lot of salt. If your car rides open in winter, wash the undercarriage after delivery.
Upper Peninsula Deliveries
U.P. deliveries cross the Mackinac Bridge and cover a lot of remote ground. Expect a little more lead time, especially in winter.

Can you ship a classic car to Michigan in an enclosed trailer?
Yes. Enclosed transport keeps your car fully covered from pickup to delivery. Just choose enclosed when you request your quote.

No. Michigan doesn't require safety or emissions inspections. You will need Michigan no-fault insurance before the Secretary of State will register your car.

Do I have to pay upfront?
No. There's $0 due at booking. Once a carrier is assigned, you can pay a deposit and the rest to the driver at delivery by cash or check, or pay in full at that point.
