Florida to Michigan Auto Transport

Shipping a Car From Florida to Michigan

Tampa to Detroit is about 1,180 miles, and nearly all of it is on I-75, the same interstate from start to finish. Naples is closer to 1,345, and Grand Rapids and Traverse City add a little more. It's two to three days of driving.

I-75 is basically Michigan's snowbird highway. Every fall, Michiganders head down to Naples, Fort Myers, Sarasota, and the Gulf beaches, and every spring they ship their cars home. We also ship for Floridians taking auto and engineering jobs in Metro Detroit, students at Michigan and Michigan State, and families moving north for the lakes.

Door-to-door, a final-price quote, and $0 due at booking.

The Route

How Cars Get From Florida to Michigan

This is the classic I-75 snowbird route. Trucks come up through Gainesville, Atlanta, Chattanooga, Knoxville, Lexington, Cincinnati, Dayton, and Toledo, and roll into Metro Detroit. Ann Arbor is just west on I-94.

Lansing and Grand Rapids are reached on I-96 or I-69. Traverse City, Petoskey, and the Upper Peninsula are farther north and take extra planning, especially in winter.

Timing

When to Ship Florida to Michigan

The snowbird calendar drives everything on this route.

Spring Return Rush

March through May, northbound I-75 trucks fill up fast with Michigan snowbirds. Book two or three weeks ahead.

Fall

Trucks heading north in the fall often have open space, which can mean better rates.

Michigan Winter

If you're shipping north in winter, lake-effect snow can slow the last leg, especially to West and Northern Michigan.

Spring Load Limits

During the thaw, many Michigan roads have seasonal weight limits. Meeting near a main road keeps things on time.

Pricing

How Much Does It Cost to Ship a Car From Florida to Michigan?

Here's what moves the price between Florida and Michigan.

Distance

Metro Detroit is about 1,100 to 1,350 miles from most of Florida. Northern Michigan adds more.

Snowbird Demand

Spring northbound and fall southbound trips cost more. Ship against the flow if you can.

A Busy Lane

I-75 is one of the busiest car-shipping corridors in the country, which keeps prices competitive outside peak weeks.

Open or Enclosed

Open is the standard. Enclosed is popular for classics and luxury cars heading home for the summer.

Vehicle Size

Pickups and full-size SUVs take more trailer space than sedans, so they cost more to ship.

Date Flexibility

A flexible window helps a lot during the spring rush.

Your Quote Is Your Final Price

Snowbird season or not, the price we quote is the price you pay. Good for 7 days, with $0 due at booking.

Good to Know

Before You Ship & After You Arrive

A few Michigan-specific things worth knowing.

Registering in Michigan

New residents should title and register with the Secretary of State as soon as they move. Michigan doesn't require a safety or emissions inspection. Check michigan.gov/sos for current requirements.

Snowbird Round Trips

Book the spring trip home and the fall trip back together, and we'll plan both around your dates.

No-Fault Insurance

If you're becoming a Michigan resident, you'll need Michigan no-fault coverage before you register.

Florida Pickups

Gated communities, HOA truck rules, condo garages, and tight streets in places like Miami Beach and Key West can keep a carrier off your street. If so, the driver will set up a nearby meeting spot, usually a lot just off I-95, I-75, I-4, or the Turnpike.

The Process

How It Works

Simple, transparent, and nothing due until a carrier is on the way.

  1. 1

    Request Your Quote

Give us your Florida pickup address, your Michigan delivery address, the vehicle, and your dates. You get a final price, good for 7 days.

  2. 2

    Book With $0 Down

Nothing is due when you book. We match your vehicle with a vetted carrier that has room on a truck headed to Michigan.

  3. 3

    Carrier Dispatched

Once a carrier is assigned, a deposit (or full payment, if you prefer) secures your spot. The driver inspects your car with you at pickup and notes its condition on the Bill of Lading.

  4. 4

    Delivered & Inspected

Look your car over with the driver in Michigan, sign off, and pay any remaining balance directly to the driver by cash or check.
