Illinois to Florida Auto Transport

Shipping a Car From Illinois to Florida

Chicago to Orlando is about 1,150 miles, down I-65 and I-75 through Indianapolis, Nashville, and Atlanta. Fort Myers is closer to 1,270, and Naples is around 1,310. It's two to three days of driving.

This is one of the busiest snowbird routes in the country. Naples, Fort Myers, Sarasota, and Marco Island are packed with Chicago-area families every winter, and plenty retire there for good. We also ship for families with vacation places on 30A and in Destin, students heading to Florida schools, and people buying cars from Florida dealers.

Door-to-door, a final-price quote, and $0 due at booking.

Timing

When to Ship Illinois to Florida

The snowbird calendar drives everything on this route.

Fall Snowbird Rush

October through December, southbound I-75 trucks fill up faster than almost anywhere. Book two or three weeks ahead.

Spring Return

March through May, northbound trucks fill up the same way. Ship against the flow if you can.

Hurricane Season

June through November can affect deliveries in Florida. Keep a little slack in your dates.

Illinois Winter

Snow around Chicago can push a January pickup back a day.

Pricing

How Much Does It Cost to Ship a Car From Illinois to Florida?

Here's what moves the price between Illinois and Florida.

Distance

The Panhandle is about 920 miles from Chicago. Southwest Florida is closer to 1,300.

Snowbird Demand

Fall southbound and spring northbound trips cost the most. Summer moves are often the best value.

A Busy Lane

Chicago to Southwest Florida is one of the most popular car-shipping lanes in the country, which keeps prices competitive outside peak weeks.

Delivery Area

Gated communities and condo garages often have truck rules. Share them when you book.

Vehicle Size

Pickups and full-size SUVs take more trailer space than sedans, so they cost more to ship.

Open or Enclosed

Open is the standard. Enclosed is popular for luxury cars heading to Naples.

Your Quote Is Your Final Price

We don't quote low and raise it later. Your quote is your final price, and $0 is due at booking.

Good to Know

Before You Ship & After You Arrive

A few Florida-specific things worth knowing.

Registering in Florida

New residents have 10 days after starting a job or enrolling kids in school to title and register. Out-of-state vehicles need a VIN verification. Florida doesn't require a safety or emissions inspection. Check flhsmv.gov for current requirements.

Snowbird Round Trips

Book the fall trip south and the spring trip home together, and we'll plan both around your dates.

Gated Communities and Condos

Naples, Marco Island, and Sarasota communities often have gate rules and garage height limits. The driver may meet you at the entrance.

Illinois Pickups

Chicago alleys, permit-only parking, high-rise garages, and tight streets in neighborhoods like Lincoln Park and Wicker Park can keep a big carrier off your block. If so, the driver will set up a nearby meeting spot, usually a lot just off I-90/94, I-55, I-57, I-80, I-88, or I-294.

The Process

How It Works

Simple, transparent, and nothing due until a carrier is on the way.

  1. 1

    Request Your Quote

Give us your Illinois pickup address, your Florida delivery address, the vehicle, and your dates. You get a final price, good for 7 days.

  2. 2

    Book With $0 Down

Nothing is due when you book. We match your vehicle with a vetted carrier that has room on a truck headed to Florida.

  3. 3

    Carrier Dispatched

Once a carrier is assigned, a deposit (or full payment, if you prefer) secures your spot. The driver inspects your car with you at pickup and notes its condition on the Bill of Lading.

  4. 4

    Delivered & Inspected

Look your car over with the driver in Florida, sign off, and pay any remaining balance directly to the driver by cash or check.

Illinois to Florida Car Shipping FAQs

How long does it take to ship a car from Illinois to Florida?

Usually 2 to 4 days after pickup.

How much does it cost to ship a car from Illinois to Florida?

It depends on your exact pickup and delivery locations, vehicle size, open or enclosed transport, and the season. Request a free quote and you'll get a final price, good for 7 days.

When should I book my fall trip to Florida?

Two or three weeks ahead if you're shipping in October, November, or December. That's when southbound trucks fill up fastest.

Do I have to change my registration if I winter in Florida?

Not if you stay an Illinois resident. If you become a Florida resident, you'll need to title and register there.

Is it cheaper to ship or drive from Illinois to Florida?

Driving 1,200 miles means two or three days, hotel nights, gas, and food. Most snowbirds find flying and shipping costs about the same and is much easier.

Can you ship a car from Florida back to Illinois?

Yes. Request a quote with your Florida pickup address and your Illinois delivery address. It's door-to-door either way.

Is my car insured during transport?

Yes. Every carrier we work with is required to carry active cargo insurance. Your car's condition is documented on the Bill of Lading at pickup and checked again at delivery. Personal items left in the vehicle aren't covered.

Do I have to pay upfront?

No. There's $0 due at booking. Once a carrier is assigned, you can pay a deposit and the rest to the driver at delivery by cash or check, or pay in full at that point.
