Shipping a Car From Alabama to Florida

Alabama and Florida share a border, but Florida is a long state. Montgomery to Destin is under 200 miles. Birmingham to Miami is closer to 800. So "Alabama to Florida" can mean a quick half-day trip or a two-day haul down the peninsula.

It's one of the busiest routes we run out of Alabama. Retirees head for Tampa Bay and Southwest Florida. Snowbirds go south every fall. Military families move between Alabama posts and Pensacola, Eglin, Hurlburt Field, Tyndall, MacDill, and Jacksonville. And plenty of families with a condo on the Emerald Coast just want a second car down there.

Every shipment is door-to-door, with a final-price quote and $0 due at booking.

The Route

How Cars Get From Alabama to Florida

From Birmingham and Montgomery, trucks usually head south on I-65 or US-231 to reach I-10 in the Panhandle. From there, Tampa and Southwest Florida deliveries turn south on I-75 at Lake City, Orlando deliveries pick up the Turnpike, and Jacksonville is straight down I-10.

Mobile pickups get on I-10 right away. Cars coming out of Huntsville often go the other way, east through Chattanooga and down I-75 through Atlanta, which is a straighter shot to Central and South Florida.

Along the Way

  • Birmingham → Montgomery~90 mi
  • Montgomery → I-10 (via US-231)~135 mi
  • Panhandle → Lake City~185 mi
  • Lake City → Orlando~150 mi
  • Orlando → Miami~235 mi

Approximate distances. The exact route depends on the carrier's other stops.

Timing

When to Ship Alabama to Florida

Snowbirds and hurricane season drive demand on this route. Here's what to expect.

Fall & Early Winter

Snowbird season. Trucks into Florida fill up from October through December, so book 2 to 4 weeks ahead.

Spring

The snowbirds head north, so southbound trucks into Florida are often easier to find and price.

Summer

Peak moving season, plus afternoon thunderstorms almost every day in Florida. They rarely stop a delivery, but can push it a few hours.

Hurricane Season

June 1 through November 30. Both ends of this route are on the Gulf, so a storm can pause pickups or deliveries until it's safe.

Pricing

How Much Does It Cost to Ship a Car From Alabama to Florida?

Where in Florida you're going and when you ship make the biggest difference.

Distance

Panhandle deliveries are short trips. Southwest Florida and Miami are two or three times as far, and priced that way.

Direction & Season

Shipping into Florida in the fall runs into the snowbird rush and usually costs more than the same trip in spring or summer.

Delivery Area

Orlando, Tampa, and Jacksonville are busy markets with lots of trucks. The Keys, barrier islands, and small Panhandle towns can take longer to schedule.

Open or Enclosed

Open is how most cars ship to Florida. Enclosed adds protection from summer storms and road debris.

Vehicle Size

Full-size trucks and SUVs take more space and weight on the trailer, so they cost a bit more to ship.

Pickup Flexibility

A flexible pickup window gives us more carriers to choose from, which usually means a better price and a faster match.

Your Quote Is Your Final Price

Snowbird season is when bait-and-switch pricing shows up most. We don't play that game. The price we quote is the price you pay, with $0 due when you book.

Good to Know

Before You Ship & After You Arrive

A few Florida-specific things that can affect your shipment.

Registering in Florida

New residents must register within 10 days of establishing residency, and out-of-state vehicles need a VIN verification by law enforcement, a licensed Florida dealer, or a tax collector's office. Check flhsmv.gov for current requirements.

Gated Communities & Condos

A lot of Florida is gated. Send gate codes, HOA rules, or condo loading instructions ahead of time so the driver can plan the delivery.

Moving With the Military

We ship cars between Alabama installations like Maxwell AFB and Redstone Arsenal and Florida bases including NAS Pensacola, Eglin, Hurlburt Field, Tyndall, MacDill, and NAS Jacksonville.

A Second Car at the Beach

If you split time between Alabama and a place in Destin, 30A, or Panama City Beach, we can move a second car down so nobody has to drive two.

The Process

How It Works

Simple, transparent, and nothing due until a carrier is on the way.

  1. 1

    Request Your Quote

Give us your Alabama pickup address, your Florida delivery address, the vehicle, and your dates. You get a final price, good for 7 days.

  2. 2

    Book With $0 Down

Nothing is due when you book. We match your vehicle with a vetted carrier that has room on a truck headed to Florida.

  3. 3

    Carrier Dispatched

Once a carrier is assigned, a deposit (or full payment, if you prefer) secures your spot. The driver inspects your car with you at pickup and notes its condition on the Bill of Lading.

  4. 4

    Delivered & Inspected

Look your car over with the driver in Florida, sign off, and pay any remaining balance directly to the driver by cash or check.

FAQ

Alabama to Florida Car Shipping FAQs

How long does it take to ship a car from Alabama to Florida?

Usually 1 to 4 days after pickup. Panhandle deliveries can be next-day. Southwest and South Florida take the longest.

How much does it cost to ship a car from Alabama to Florida?

It depends on where in Florida you're headed, your vehicle size, open or enclosed transport, and the season. Fall is the priciest time to ship into Florida because of snowbird demand. Request a free quote and you'll get a final price, good for 7 days.

Does hurricane season affect Alabama to Florida car shipping?

It can. Most shipments during hurricane season run normally, but if a storm threatens your pickup or delivery area, carriers hold off until the roads are safe. Keeping your dates a little flexible from June through November helps.

Can you ship my car to Florida for the winter?

Yes. We ship snowbirds from Alabama to Florida every fall. Book 2 to 4 weeks ahead for October through December pickups, and let us know your spring plans so we can quote the trip home too.

Can you deliver to a gated community or condo?

Yes. Share gate codes, building rules, or loading-zone details when you book. If a full-size carrier can't get inside the community, the driver will meet you at the entrance or a nearby lot.

Can you ship a car to the Florida Keys?

Yes. The Keys are served by one highway and have limited space for big trucks, so deliveries there can take a bit longer to schedule and may mean meeting the driver at an accessible spot.

Can you ship a car from Florida back to Alabama?

Yes. Request a quote with your Florida pickup address and your Alabama delivery address. Every shipment is door-to-door.

Is my car insured during transport?

Yes. Every carrier we work with is required to carry active cargo insurance. Your car's condition is documented on the Bill of Lading at pickup and checked again at delivery. Personal items left in the vehicle are not covered.

Do I have to pay upfront?

No. There's $0 due at booking. Once a carrier is assigned, you can pay a deposit and the remaining balance to the driver at delivery by cash or check, or pay in full at that point so nothing is due at delivery.
