Shipping a Car From Iowa to Texas
Des Moines to Dallas is about 690 miles, straight down I-35 through Kansas City and Oklahoma City. Houston is closer to 930, Austin is around 880, and McAllen in the Rio Grande Valley is about 1,170. It's two to four days of driving.
We're a Texas-based broker, and Iowa to Texas is a lane we run all year. Iowa sends a big share of the Rio Grande Valley's Winter Texans, the retirees who spend November through March in McAllen, Mission, and Harlingen. We also ship for families relocating to Dallas, Austin, and Houston. And we can store your vehicle at our lot in Freeport, Texas, and get it ready to go to Port Freeport if it's being shipped overseas.
Door-to-door, a final-price quote, and $0 due at booking.

Pricing
How Much Does It Cost to Ship a Car From Iowa to Texas?
Here's what moves the price between Iowa and Texas.
Distance
Dallas is about 690 miles from Des Moines. Houston and the Valley run 930 to 1,170.
Snowbird Season
Fall southbound and spring northbound are peak for the Valley. Booking ahead keeps the price steady.
Delivery Area
Major metros are easy. RV parks and rural Valley roads may need a meeting spot.
Open or Enclosed
Open is the standard. Enclosed keeps hail and heat off a nicer car.
Vehicle Size
Pickups and full-size SUVs take more trailer space than sedans, so they cost more to ship.
Storage or Port Prep
Need your car held at our Freeport lot before it ships out of Port Freeport? We'll quote the storage along with the transport.
Your Quote Is Your Final Price
We know Texas routes well, and we price them to move. What we quote is what you pay, with $0 due at booking.

Before You Ship & After You Arrive
A few Texas-specific things worth knowing.
Registering in Texas
New residents have 30 days to register with their county tax office. Texas ended safety inspections for most passenger vehicles in 2025, but emissions testing still applies in the major metro counties. Check txdmv.gov for current requirements.
Vehicle Storage & Port Freeport
Need somewhere to keep your car, or shipping it overseas? We can store vehicles at our lot in Freeport, Texas, and get them ready to go to Port Freeport to be shipped.
Winter Texans
Spending the winter in McAllen, Mission, or Harlingen? We'll ship the car down in the fall and back to Iowa in the spring. RV parks with truck rules are no problem; the driver will meet you at the entrance.
Iowa Pickups
Gravel roads in farm country, HOA truck rules in Ankeny, Waukee, and West Des Moines subdivisions, game-day traffic in Ames and Iowa City, and State Fair week in Des Moines can keep a big carrier off your street. If so, the driver will set up a nearby meeting spot, usually a lot just off I-80, I-35, I-29, I-380, or I-235.
