Shipping a Car From Alabama to Texas
Texas is home turf for us. We're a Texas-based broker, so this is a lane we know well. Mobile to Houston is about 470 miles along the Gulf, Birmingham to Dallas is around 650, and El Paso is nearly 1,300. Where in Texas you're going makes a big difference.
Alabama to Texas is one of the most common moves in the South. People head to Houston, Dallas–Fort Worth, Austin, and San Antonio for jobs, lower taxes, and room to grow. We ship cars for soldiers and families heading to Fort Hood and Fort Bliss, airmen at Joint Base San Antonio and Dyess, engineers moving between Huntsville and Houston's space industry, and students at Texas A&M and UT.

The Route
How Cars Get From Alabama to Texas
For Dallas–Fort Worth, trucks take I-20 west from Birmingham through Meridian, Jackson, and Shreveport. It's nearly a straight line. Houston deliveries usually run I-59 southwest to the Gulf Coast and then I-10 west through Baton Rouge and Beaumont. From Mobile, it's I-10 the whole way.
Austin and San Antonio are reached from either direction, up I-35 from Dallas or west on I-10 from Houston. El Paso and West Texas are a long haul past that. Texas is huge, so a delivery in the Panhandle or the Rio Grande Valley can be as far from Dallas as Dallas is from Birmingham.
Along the Way
- Birmingham → Jackson, MS~245 mi
- Jackson → Shreveport~220 mi
- Shreveport → Dallas~190 mi
Approximate distances. The exact route depends on the carrier's other stops.
Timing
When to Ship Alabama to Texas
Gulf weather and the military calendar shape this route most.
Hurricane Season
June through November affects the Gulf Coast from Mobile to Houston. If a storm threatens, carriers wait until roads are safe.
Texas Summer Heat
Triple-digit days are normal. Make sure your battery and tires are in good shape before pickup.
Summer PCS Season
The busiest time for moves to Fort Hood, Fort Bliss, and Joint Base San Antonio. Request your quote a couple of weeks ahead.
Winter
Rare, but when ice hits North Texas, roads can shut down for a day or two. Leave a little flexibility in January and February.
Pricing
How Much Does It Cost to Ship a Car From Alabama to Texas?
Where in Texas you're headed makes the biggest difference. Here's what moves the price.
Where in Texas
Houston is a short trip from Mobile. El Paso is almost three times as far. Your delivery city matters a lot on this route.
Metro vs. Rural
Houston, Dallas–Fort Worth, Austin, and San Antonio are busy markets with lots of trucks. West Texas and small towns take longer.
Season
Summer demand and hurricane season both affect timing. Fall is often the smoothest time to ship.
Open or Enclosed
Open is the standard. Enclosed protects classics and luxury cars from Gulf storms and road debris.
Vehicle Size
Pickups and SUVs, which are everywhere in Texas, take more trailer space than sedans and cost a bit more.
Date Flexibility
I-20 and I-10 are busy truck corridors. A flexible window helps us catch one already headed west.
Your Quote Is Your Final Price
Some companies advertise a low number and raise it once your car is waiting on a truck. We don't. The price we quote is the price you pay, with $0 due when you book.

Before You Ship & After You Arrive
A few Texas-specific things worth knowing.
Registering in Texas
New residents have 30 days to register with their county tax office. Texas ended routine safety inspections for most passenger cars, but emissions testing is still required in the Houston, Dallas–Fort Worth, Austin, San Antonio, and El Paso areas. Check txdmv.gov for current rules.
Moving With the Military
We ship vehicles for soldiers and families heading to Fort Hood and Fort Bliss, and airmen at Joint Base San Antonio, Dyess, Sheppard, and Goodfellow.
A Texas-Based Broker
We're based on the Texas Gulf Coast, so we know these lanes well. That helps when weather or traffic shifts a delivery.
Big-City Traffic
Houston and Dallas traffic can push a delivery later in the day. The driver will call ahead with a realistic time.
