The Route
How Cars Get From Arizona to Texas
Almost everything starts on I-10 through Tucson and Las Cruces into El Paso. From there, Dallas and Fort Worth loads switch to I-20 through Midland, Odessa, and Abilene. San Antonio and Houston loads stay on I-10 across the Hill Country. Austin is a short hop up I-35 from San Antonio.
The Panhandle around Amarillo and Lubbock is usually served off I-40 instead. West Texas between El Paso and the Hill Country is a long, empty stretch, so plan on a full day of driving between big cities.

Timing
When to Ship Arizona to Texas
Heat on both ends and hurricanes on the coast set the timing here.
Summer Heat
Phoenix, El Paso, and most of Texas are over 100°F from June through August. Be ready on time, and check the battery and tires.
Hurricane Season
June through November can affect Houston and the Gulf Coast. Keep a little slack in your dates for coastal deliveries.
Spring Storms
March through May brings hail and severe storms to North Texas. Drivers wait them out, which can add a few hours.
Fall & Winter
Usually the easiest time to ship. Occasional ice storms in Dallas can stop trucks for a day.
Pricing
How Much Does It Cost to Ship a Car From Arizona to Texas?
Here's what moves the price between Arizona and Texas.
Distance
El Paso is about 430 miles from Phoenix. Houston is closer to 1,200.
A Busy Lane
Phoenix to Dallas and Houston are some of the busiest routes in the Southwest, which keeps prices competitive.
Delivery Area
Major metros are easy. Big Bend country, the Valley, and rural West Texas take more planning.
Open or Enclosed
Open is the standard. Enclosed keeps hail, sun, and road debris off a nicer car.
Vehicle Size
Pickups and full-size SUVs take more trailer space than sedans, so they cost more to ship.
Date Flexibility
Lots of trucks run I-10 and I-20. A flexible day or two usually gets you the best price.

Before You Ship & After You Arrive
A few Texas-specific things worth knowing.
Registering in Texas
New residents have 30 days to register with their county tax office. Texas ended safety inspections for most passenger vehicles in 2025, but emissions testing still applies in the major metro counties. Check txdmv.gov for current requirements.
Moving With the Military
We ship for soldiers, airmen, and families moving to Fort Bliss, Fort Hood, Joint Base San Antonio, Dyess, Goodfellow, and Sheppard. Share your report date when you book.
Gated Communities
Many Texas master-planned communities have gate and truck rules. Share them when you book, or pick a nearby lot.
Moving Two Cars?
El Paso is a day's drive, Houston is two. Shipping one car while you drive the other is often the easiest move.
