Shipping a Car From California to Arizona
Los Angeles to Phoenix is only about 370 miles, a straight run east on I-10 across the desert. San Diego to Phoenix is a little shorter on I-8. It's a one-day drive, but a hot one most of the year.
This is one of the busiest moves in the West. A lot of Californians are relocating to Phoenix and Scottsdale for lower housing costs and lower taxes. We also ship for Marines going from Camp Pendleton and Miramar to MCAS Yuma, airmen heading to Luke and Davis-Monthan, and students at ASU and the University of Arizona.
Door-to-door, a final-price quote, and $0 due at booking.

How Cars Get From California to Arizona
Phoenix loads take I-10 east from Los Angeles through the Inland Empire, past Palm Springs, and across the Colorado River at Blythe. San Diego loads take I-8 through Yuma and join I-10 near Casa Grande, which also makes them the natural route to Tucson.

Timing
When to Ship California to Arizona
Heat is the main thing to plan around on this short route.
Summer Heat
Phoenix and the desert stretch run 110°F and up from June through August. Have someone ready to meet the driver on time.
Fall Snowbird Season
October through December, trucks heading into Arizona fill up with snowbirds. Book a couple of weeks ahead.
Monsoon Season
July through September, afternoon storms and dust can close I-10 for an hour or two. Drivers wait them out.
Winter & Spring
Pleasant on both ends and easy to book. Snow on I-40 near Flagstaff is the only thing to watch.
Pricing
How Much Does It Cost to Ship a Car From California to Arizona?
This is a short route, so pricing works a little differently.
Distance
Palm Springs to Phoenix is about 260 miles. The Bay Area to Phoenix is closer to 750.
Short-Haul Pricing
Short trips cost more per mile than cross-country ones, since loading and unloading take the same time either way.
A Busy Lane
LA to Phoenix is one of the busiest car-shipping lanes in the West, which keeps prices competitive.
Open or Enclosed
Open is the standard. Enclosed keeps desert sun and dust off a nicer car.
Vehicle Size
Pickups and full-size SUVs take more trailer space than sedans, so they cost more to ship.
Date Flexibility
Lots of trucks run I-10. A flexible day or two usually gets you the best price.
Your Quote Is Your Final Price
Short route or long, the price we quote is the price you pay. Good for 7 days, with $0 due at booking.

Before You Ship & After You Arrive
A few Arizona-specific things worth knowing.
Registering in Arizona
New residents should register with Arizona MVD right away. Out-of-state vehicles need a quick Level I inspection, and cars in the Phoenix and Tucson areas need an emissions test. Check azdot.gov/mvd for current requirements.
Moving With the Military
We ship for Marines, airmen, soldiers, and families moving from California bases to MCAS Yuma, Luke, Davis-Monthan, and Fort Huachuca.
Gated Communities
Many Phoenix-area HOAs and 55-plus communities restrict big trucks. Share gate details or a nearby meeting spot when you book.
Moving Two Cars?
On a one-day route, shipping one car while you drive the other is often the easiest move.

California to Arizona Car Shipping FAQs
How long does it take to ship a car from California to Arizona?
Usually 1 to 3 days after pickup. LA and San Diego to Phoenix are often next-day.
How much does it cost to ship a car from California to Arizona?
It depends on your exact pickup and delivery locations, vehicle size, open or enclosed transport, and the season. Request a free quote and you'll get a final price, good for 7 days.
Why ship instead of driving from LA to Phoenix?
It's only six hours, but if you're moving two cars, flying in, or don't want to cross the desert in July, shipping saves you the trip.
Do you ship cars for Marines moving to MCAS Yuma?
Yes. We regularly ship for Marines and families moving from Camp Pendleton and Miramar to Yuma. Give us your report date when you request a quote.
Do I need an emissions test in Arizona?
Only if you live in the Phoenix or Tucson areas. Out-of-state vehicles also need a quick Level I inspection when you register.
Can you ship a car from Arizona back to California?
Yes. Request a quote with your Arizona pickup address and your California delivery address. It's door-to-door either way.
Is my car insured during transport?
Yes. Every carrier we work with is required to carry active cargo insurance. Your car's condition is documented on the Bill of Lading at pickup and checked again at delivery. Personal items left in the vehicle aren't covered.
Do I have to pay upfront?
No. There's $0 due at booking. Once a carrier is assigned, you can pay a deposit and the rest to the driver at delivery by cash or check, or pay in full at that point.
