California to Pennsylvania Auto Transport
Shipping a Car From California to Pennsylvania
Los Angeles to Pittsburgh is about 2,435 miles, and Philadelphia is closer to 2,740 on the far side of the state. It's five or six days of driving, ending with the Pennsylvania Turnpike's tunnels through the Alleghenies.
Pittsburgh has become one of the country's big robotics and self-driving car hubs, so a lot of the cars we ship on this route belong to engineers moving between the Bay Area and Pittsburgh. We also ship for health care and university jobs in Philadelphia, students at Penn State, Pitt, and Penn, and families moving back East.
Door-to-door, a final-price quote, and $0 due at booking.

How Cars Get From California to Pennsylvania
Southern California loads take I-40 and I-44 to St. Louis and I-70 through Indianapolis and Columbus into Pittsburgh. Trucks headed farther east get on the Pennsylvania Turnpike (I-76) and cross the mountains to Harrisburg and Philadelphia.
Bay Area loads usually take I-80 straight across, which runs right through the middle of Pennsylvania past State College and on toward the Poconos. Erie and the northwest corner come in on I-90 from Cleveland.

Timing
When to Ship California to Pennsylvania
Coast-to-coast moves deal with every kind of weather.
Mountain Winter
Snow on Donner Pass and in the Rockies, plus ice on the Turnpike and I-80 through the Alleghenies, can slow trucks from December through March.
Late August Move-In
Penn State, Pitt, and the Philly schools move in at once. Ship a few days early.
Penn State Weekends
Home football games pack State College. Deliveries there go smoother on non-game weekends.
Spring & Fall
Usually the easiest time to ship across the country.
Pricing
How Much Does It Cost to Ship a Car From California to Pennsylvania?
Here's what moves the price on this cross-country route.
Distance
Western Pennsylvania is about 2,435 miles from LA. Philadelphia is closer to 2,750.
City vs. Suburb
Suburban driveways are simple. Philly rowhouse blocks and steep Pittsburgh streets usually need a meeting spot.
Season
Summer and winter are the busiest. Spring and fall are usually the best value.
Open or Enclosed
Open is the standard. Enclosed keeps road salt and winter grime off a California car.
Vehicle Size
Pickups and full-size SUVs take more trailer space than sedans, so they cost more to ship.
Date Flexibility
A flexible pickup window helps us catch a truck already headed east.
Your Quote Is Your Final Price
Turnpike tolls are already built in. The price we quote is the price you pay, with $0 due at booking.

Before You Ship & After You Arrive
A few Pennsylvania-specific things worth knowing.
Registering in Pennsylvania
New residents have 20 days to title and register with PennDOT. Pennsylvania requires an annual safety inspection, and many counties also require emissions testing. Check dmv.pa.gov for current requirements.
City Deliveries
Philadelphia rowhouse streets and Pittsburgh's steep, narrow hills are hard for a car carrier. The driver will coordinate a nearby lot.
Get Winter-Ready
Coming from California? Pennsylvania winters call for good snow tires and a strong battery.
California Pickups
Tight streets, permit parking, and big apartment complexes in LA, San Francisco, and San Diego can keep a carrier off your block. If so, the driver will set up a nearby meeting spot.

It depends on your exact pickup and delivery locations, vehicle size, open or enclosed transport, and the season. Request a free quote and you'll get a final price, good for 7 days.
Can you deliver to a Philadelphia rowhouse?

Yes. Pennsylvania requires an annual safety inspection, and emissions testing applies in many counties. You have 20 days after moving to title and register.
Is it cheaper to ship or drive from California to Pennsylvania?
Driving 2,500 miles or more means five or six days, hotel nights, gas, food, and tolls. For most people, shipping costs less.
Can you ship a car from Pennsylvania back to California?
Yes. Request a quote with your Pennsylvania pickup address and your California delivery address. Every shipment is door-to-door.
Is my car insured during transport?
Yes. Every carrier we work with must carry active cargo insurance. Your car's condition is recorded on the Bill of Lading at pickup and checked again at delivery. Personal items left in the car aren't covered.
