California to Virginia Auto Transport
Shipping a Car From California to Virginia
Los Angeles to Richmond is about 2,600 miles, east on I-40 to Knoxville and up the Shenandoah Valley on I-81. Norfolk, Virginia Beach, and Northern Virginia are all about 2,700. It's five or six long days of driving.
This is one of the busiest military routes in the country. San Diego to Naval Station Norfolk is the classic coast-to-coast Navy move, Marines go from Camp Pendleton to Quantico, and officers and defense contractors move from Los Angeles AFB and the aerospace industry to the Pentagon and Northern Virginia. We also ship for tech workers headed to the Northern Virginia data center corridor and students at UVA and Virginia Tech.
Door-to-door, a final-price quote, and $0 due at booking.

The Route
How Cars Get From California to Virginia
Most carriers take I-40 across the country through Albuquerque, Oklahoma City, Memphis, and Nashville to Knoxville, then follow I-81 up the Shenandoah Valley past Bristol and Roanoke. From there, I-64 leads east through Charlottesville and Richmond to Hampton Roads.
Northern Virginia loads stay on I-81 and cut over on I-66 toward Arlington and Fairfax, or come up I-95 from Richmond past Quantico. The Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel and Beltway traffic are the biggest timing factors at the end of the trip.

Timing
When to Ship California to Virginia
Navy orders and East Coast weather shape this route.
Summer PCS Season
May through August is the peak for Norfolk, Little Creek, Oceana, Quantico, and Pentagon moves. Book as soon as you have orders.
Hurricane Season
June through November can affect Hampton Roads and the coast. Keep a little slack in your dates.
Winter
Snow near Flagstaff and Albuquerque, plus ice on I-81 through the mountains, can slow trucks from December through February.
Spring & Fall
Usually the smoothest time to ship across the country.
Pricing
How Much Does It Cost to Ship a Car From California to Virginia?
Here's what moves the price on this cross-country route.
Distance
Southwest Virginia is about 2,300 miles from LA. Hampton Roads and Northern Virginia are closer to 2,700.
Delivery Area
Suburban addresses are easy. Old Town Alexandria, Arlington high-rises, and some Navy housing usually need a meeting spot.
Season
Summer PCS moves raise demand. Fall and winter are usually the best value.
Open or Enclosed
Open is the standard. Enclosed protects a nicer car coast to coast.
Vehicle Size
Pickups and full-size SUVs take more trailer space than sedans, so they cost more to ship.
Date Flexibility
A flexible window lets us catch a truck already heading east on I-40.
Your Quote Is Your Final Price
Tolls and tunnels are already built in. The price we quote is the price you pay, with $0 due at booking.

Before You Ship & After You Arrive
A few Virginia-specific things worth knowing.
Registering in Virginia
New residents have 30 days to title and register with Virginia DMV. Virginia requires an annual safety inspection, and cars in Northern Virginia also need emissions testing. Check dmv.virginia.gov for current requirements.
Moving With the Military
We ship for sailors, Marines, airmen, and families moving from San Diego, Camp Pendleton, Lemoore, Los Angeles AFB, and other California bases to Norfolk, Oceana, Little Creek, Quantico, Langley, and the Pentagon.
Base and Housing Pickups
Navy and Marine bases on both ends have rules for commercial trucks. We'll work with you on a gate or a nearby meeting spot.
California Pickups
Tight streets, permit parking, and big apartment complexes in LA, San Francisco, and San Diego can keep a carrier off your block. If so, the driver will set up a nearby meeting spot.
