Alabama to Pennsylvania Auto Transport
Shipping a Car From Alabama to Pennsylvania
Pennsylvania is two very different trips from Alabama. Birmingham to Pittsburgh is about 760 miles through Kentucky and Ohio or West Virginia. Philadelphia is around 870, straight up the I-81 corridor. Which side of the state you're headed to changes the whole route.
We ship a lot of cars on this route for job moves to Philadelphia and Pittsburgh's hospitals, universities, and tech companies. We also ship for students at Penn State, Pitt, Temple, and Penn, and for Army personnel moving between Redstone Arsenal and Pennsylvania posts like Carlisle Barracks, Letterkenny, and Tobyhanna. And plenty of folks are heading back to hometowns after years in the South.
Door-to-door, a final-price quote, and $0 due at booking.

The Route
How Cars Get From Alabama to Pennsylvania
For central and eastern Pennsylvania, trucks run I-81 from Knoxville up through the Shenandoah Valley to Harrisburg. From there, the Turnpike (I-76) heads east to Philadelphia, I-78 goes to Allentown, and I-81 keeps going north to Scranton.
Pittsburgh is a different route. Most carriers go up through Louisville and Ohio, or through Charleston, West Virginia, and up I-79. State College sits in the middle of the state, a bit off any interstate. Philly rowhome blocks and Pittsburgh's steep, narrow hillside streets often can't fit a full car carrier, so the driver may meet you nearby.

Timing
When to Ship Alabama to Pennsylvania
Mountain winters and a few big weekends shape this route most.
Winter
Snow and ice on I-81, I-80, and the Turnpike's mountain stretches can slow trucks from December through March.
Penn State Game Days
Home football weekends bring more than 100,000 people to State College. Plan deliveries there for a weekday.
Summer
Peak moving season and road construction season. Request your quote a week or two ahead.
Spring & Fall
Usually the easiest time to ship this route, outside of Penn State game weekends.
Pricing
How Much Does It Cost to Ship a Car From Alabama to Pennsylvania?
Here's what makes the biggest difference in price on this route.
East vs. West
Pittsburgh and Philadelphia are different routes from Alabama. Your exact city matters more than usual here.
City Access
Philly rowhome streets and Pittsburgh hillsides often need a nearby meeting spot. Suburban addresses are easier.
Season
Winter mountain weather and summer construction both affect timing. Spring and fall are smoothest.
Open or Enclosed
Open is the standard. Enclosed keeps Pennsylvania road salt off a nicer car.
Vehicle Size
Full-size trucks and SUVs take more trailer space than sedans, so they cost a bit more to ship.
Date Flexibility
I-81 is one of the busiest truck routes on the East Coast. A flexible window helps us catch one.
Your Quote Is Your Final Price
We quote the real price up front. It won't change after you book, and nothing is due until a carrier is assigned.

Before You Ship & After You Arrive
A few Pennsylvania-specific things worth knowing.
Registering in Pennsylvania
Pennsylvania gives new residents a short window, generally 20 days, to title and register through PennDOT. Out-of-state vehicles need a VIN verification, and cars need a state safety inspection, plus emissions in many counties. Check dmv.pa.gov for current rules.
Army Moves
We ship cars for soldiers, civilians, and families moving between Redstone Arsenal and Carlisle Barracks, Letterkenny Army Depot, and Tobyhanna Army Depot.
City Streets
Philadelphia rowhome blocks and Pittsburgh's steep, narrow streets often can't fit a car carrier. The driver will call ahead and set a meeting spot.
Road Salt
Pennsylvania uses a lot of salt. Rinse the undercarriage after delivery if your car rode open in winter.

It depends on your exact pickup and delivery locations, vehicle size, open or enclosed transport, and the season. Request a free quote and you'll get a final price, good for 7 days.
Can you deliver to a Philadelphia rowhome or Pittsburgh hillside street?
Yes, but a full car carrier usually can't fit on those streets. The driver will call ahead and meet you at a nearby lot or wider street.

Yes. Out-of-state vehicles need a VIN verification, and Pennsylvania requires a safety inspection, plus emissions in many counties. Check PennDOT for current details.
