Shipping a Car From Arizona to California
Phoenix to Los Angeles is only about 375 miles, and Yuma to San Diego is under 200. On paper it's an easy drive. In practice it's hours of open desert followed by Southern California traffic, which is why plenty of people would rather fly and let the car meet them.
This is one of the busiest lanes in the West, in both directions. We ship cars for people taking jobs in L.A., San Diego, and the Bay Area, Marines moving from MCAS Yuma to Camp Pendleton, students heading to California schools, and snowbirds who split the year between Scottsdale and the coast or the Coachella Valley.
Door-to-door, a final-price quote, and $0 due at booking.

The Route
How Cars Get From Arizona to California
Los Angeles and Inland Empire deliveries run straight west on I-10 through Quartzsite and Blythe, past Palm Springs, and into the L.A. basin. San Diego trucks usually take I-8 from Gila Bend through Yuma and over the mountains east of the city.
Northern California is a longer trip, often up through the Mojave to Bakersfield and north on I-5, or from Flagstaff on I-40 to Barstow. Every truck entering California passes an agricultural inspection station at the state line. It only takes a few minutes, but it's one more reason to leave plants and produce out of the car.
Along the Way
- Phoenix → Blythe, CA~150 mi
- Blythe → Palm Springs~115 mi
- Palm Springs → Los Angeles~110 mi

Approximate distances. The exact route depends on the carrier's other stops.
Timing
When to Ship Arizona to California
Desert heat and snowbird season shape this short but busy route.
Spring
Snowbirds leave Arizona, and many head to the coast. Outbound trucks are busy, so book a week or two ahead.
Summer Heat
The I-10 desert run regularly tops 115°F. Make sure your battery, tires, and coolant are healthy before pickup.
Monsoon Season
July through September can bring dust storms and flash floods to the Arizona desert. They can briefly close I-10 or I-8.
Fall & Winter
Usually smooth. Snow can briefly close the Grapevine on I-5 north of L.A., but Southern California deliveries rarely see delays.
Pricing
How Much Does It Cost to Ship a Car From Arizona to California?
Here's what moves the price on this route.
Distance
Yuma to San Diego is under 200 miles. Phoenix to Sacramento is nearly four times that.
Direction of Traffic
More people move from California to Arizona than the other way, so trucks heading west often have room. That can work in your favor.
City Access
Dense L.A. and San Francisco neighborhoods often can't fit a full car carrier. Suburban addresses are easier.
Open or Enclosed
Open is the standard. Enclosed keeps desert sand and city grime off classic and luxury cars.
Vehicle Size
Full-size trucks and SUVs take more trailer space than sedans, so they cost a bit more to ship.
Modifications
Lifted trucks, lowered cars, and roof racks change how a vehicle fits on the trailer. Mention them when you request a quote.
Your Quote Is Your Final Price
We don't quote low and raise the price later. The number we give you is what you pay, and nothing is due when you book.

Before You Ship & After You Arrive
A few California-specific things worth knowing.
Registering in California
New residents generally have 20 days to register with the California DMV, and most vehicles need a smog check first. Check dmv.ca.gov before your car arrives.
Agricultural Inspection
California inspects vehicles entering the state for plants and produce. Leave fruit, plants, and firewood out of the car.
Moving With the Military
We ship cars for Marines moving from MCAS Yuma to Camp Pendleton and Twentynine Palms, and airmen leaving Luke or Davis-Monthan for California bases.
Big Trucks, Tight Streets
Many L.A., San Diego, and Bay Area streets can't fit a car carrier. The driver will call ahead and meet you at a nearby lot.

FAQ
Arizona to California Car Shipping FAQs
How long does it take to ship a car from Arizona to California?
Usually 1 to 3 days after pickup. Southern California is often next-day or two. The Bay Area and Sacramento take a little longer.
How much does it cost to ship a car from Arizona to California?
It depends on your exact pickup and delivery locations, vehicle size, open or enclosed transport, and the season. Request a free quote and you'll get a final price, good for 7 days.
Is it worth shipping a car only 350 miles?
Often, yes. Compare your quote to a day of desert driving, L.A. traffic, a flight back, and time off work. It makes even more sense with two cars.
Do I need a smog check in California?
Most vehicles need one before California will register them. New residents generally have 20 days to register. Check the California DMV for details.
Can the truck come to my apartment in Los Angeles or San Diego?
If the street fits a big truck, yes. If not, the driver will call ahead and meet you at a nearby lot.
Can you ship a car from California back to Arizona?
Yes. Request a quote with your California pickup address and your Arizona delivery address. It's door-to-door either way.
Is my car insured during transport?
Yes. Every carrier we work with is required to carry active cargo insurance. Your car's condition is documented on the Bill of Lading at pickup and checked again at delivery. Personal items left in the vehicle aren't covered.
Do I have to pay upfront?
No. There's $0 due at booking. Once a carrier is assigned, you can pay a deposit and the rest to the driver at delivery by cash or check, or pay in full at that point.
