Shipping a Car From Arizona to Maryland
Phoenix to Baltimore is about 2,345 miles. The route runs the length of I-70 for its second half, over the Appalachians and down into the Chesapeake region. It's four or five long days behind the wheel.
Maryland draws a lot of government and defense moves. We ship for service members going from Arizona bases to Fort Meade, Joint Base Andrews, and Aberdeen Proving Ground. We also ship for federal and contractor jobs in the DC suburbs, Naval Academy families in Annapolis, and people moving to Baltimore for work at Johns Hopkins.

The Route
How Cars Get From Arizona to Maryland
The standard path is I-40 to Oklahoma City, I-44 to St. Louis, and then I-70 nearly all the way. It crosses Indiana and Ohio, climbs through the West Virginia panhandle and the Pennsylvania Turnpike, and comes down into Hagerstown and Frederick. From there it's an hour to Baltimore.
DC-area deliveries come down I-270 into Montgomery County. Annapolis and Southern Maryland are off US-50 and US-301. The Eastern Shore means crossing the Bay Bridge, which backs up badly on summer weekends.

Timing
When to Ship Arizona to Maryland
PCS season and East Coast weather shape the timing.
Summer PCS Season
May through August is the peak for military and federal moves into the DC area. Request your quote early.
Spring
Snowbirds leaving Arizona fill eastbound trucks from March through May. Book 3 to 4 weeks ahead.
Winter
Snow in the Pennsylvania and Maryland mountains on I-70 can slow trucks. Expect a wider window.
Fall
Usually the easiest time to ship east out of Arizona, with mild weather on both ends.
Pricing
How Much Does It Cost to Ship a Car From Arizona to Maryland?
Here's what moves the price on this cross-country route.
Distance
Western Maryland is about 2,270 miles from Phoenix. Ocean City is closer to 2,500.
Delivery Area
The suburbs are easy. Downtown Baltimore rowhouse streets and DC-area high-rises usually need a nearby meeting spot.
Season
Spring snowbird traffic and summer PCS moves both push up demand. Fall is usually the best value.
Open or Enclosed
Open is the standard. Enclosed protects a nicer car over 2,300 miles of highway.
Vehicle Size
Full-size trucks and SUVs take more trailer space than sedans, so they cost more to ship.
Date Flexibility
A flexible pickup window helps us find a truck already headed east.

Before You Ship & After You Arrive
A few Maryland-specific things worth knowing.
Registering in Maryland
New residents have 60 days to title and register with the MVA, and most cars need to pass a Maryland State Inspection first. Many counties also require emissions testing. Check mva.maryland.gov for current requirements.
Moving With the Military
We ship for service members and families moving from Arizona to Fort Meade, Joint Base Andrews, Aberdeen, Fort Detrick, and Pax River. Share your report date when you book.
City Deliveries
Baltimore rowhouse blocks and DC-area apartment buildings are tough for a big truck. The driver will coordinate a nearby lot.
Plan for a Gap
With 6 to 8 days in transit, you'll probably arrive first. Budget for a week of rental or transit.
