Arizona to Illinois Auto Transport

Shipping a Car From Arizona to Illinois

Phoenix to Chicago is about 1,800 miles, roughly the old Route 66 in reverse. You go up to Flagstaff, across New Mexico and the Panhandle, and then northeast through Oklahoma and Missouri. It's three or four long days of driving.

Chicago and Phoenix have a long, close relationship. Thousands of Chicago-area snowbirds spend the winter in Mesa, Scottsdale, and Sun City, and both the Cubs and White Sox hold spring training in the Valley. We ship a lot of cars home to Illinois every spring. We also ship for job transfers, students heading to Northwestern and UIUC, and families moving back to be near relatives.

Door-to-door, a final-price quote, and $0 due at booking.

The Route

How Cars Get From Arizona to Illinois

Most trucks take I-17 to Flagstaff and I-40 east through Albuquerque and Amarillo to Oklahoma City. From there, I-44 runs northeast through Tulsa and Springfield to St. Louis, and I-55 goes the rest of the way up to Chicago.

Metro East and Springfield deliveries come off that same path. Downtown Chicago and the dense close-in neighborhoods have strict loading rules and little room for a car carrier, so the driver will usually meet you at a nearby lot.

Along the Way

  • Phoenix → Flagstaff~145 mi
  • Flagstaff → Albuquerque~325 mi
  • Albuquerque → Oklahoma City~545 mi

Approximate distances. The exact route depends on the carrier's other stops.

Timing

When to Ship Arizona to Illinois

Snowbird season shapes this route more than anything else.

Spring Snowbird Season

When spring training ends and Chicago thaws, snowbirds head home all at once. Book 3 to 4 weeks ahead for March and April pickups.

Winter on I-40

Snow near Flagstaff and Albuquerque, plus Chicago winter on the other end, can slow trucks from December through February.

Summer

Phoenix pickups can top 110°F. Be ready on time, and make sure the battery and tires are healthy.

Fall

Trucks heading into Arizona fill up, but eastbound trucks often have room, so fall is usually easier to book.

Pricing

How Much Does It Cost to Ship a Car From Arizona to Illinois?

When you ship matters as much as where. Here's what moves the price.

Season

Spring is by far the busiest time to ship from Arizona to Chicago. Fall and early winter are usually easier and cheaper.

Distance

Phoenix to the Metro East is about 1,500 miles. Tucson to Chicago is closer to 1,900.

City vs. Suburbs

Suburban addresses are the easiest. Downtown Chicago high-rises usually need a nearby meeting spot.

Open or Enclosed

Open is the standard. Enclosed keeps Chicago road salt and desert dust off a nicer car.

Vehicle Size

Full-size trucks and SUVs take more trailer space than sedans, so they cost a bit more to ship.

Date Flexibility

A flexible pickup window lets us catch a truck already heading east on I-40.

Your Quote Is Your Final Price

Spring is when low-ball quotes tend to fall apart, because trucks are full. Ours doesn't. The price we quote is the price you pay, with $0 due at booking.

Good to Know

Before You Ship & After You Arrive

A few things specific to this route.

Registering in Illinois

New residents have 30 days to title and register with the Illinois Secretary of State, and cars in the Chicago and Metro East areas may need an emissions test. Check ilsos.gov for current requirements.

Snowbird Round Trips

Heading home for the summer? Tell us when you plan to return to Arizona and we'll quote the fall trip too.

Arizona Pickups

Many Mesa, Sun City, and Scottsdale communities are gated or 55-plus with truck restrictions. Share gate details or a nearby meeting spot.

Downtown Chicago Deliveries

Loading-zone rules and tight streets make curbside delivery tough downtown. The driver will coordinate a nearby lot.

The Process

How It Works

Simple, transparent, and nothing due until a carrier is on the way.

  1. 1

    Request Your Quote

Give us your Arizona pickup address, your Illinois delivery address, the vehicle, and your dates. You get a final price, good for 7 days.

  2. 2

    Book With $0 Down

Nothing is due when you book. We match your vehicle with a vetted carrier that has room on a truck headed to Illinois.

  3. 3

    Carrier Dispatched

Once a carrier is assigned, a deposit (or full payment, if you prefer) secures your spot. The driver inspects your car with you at pickup and notes its condition on the Bill of Lading.

  4. 4

    Delivered & Inspected

Look your car over with the driver in Illinois, sign off, and pay any remaining balance directly to the driver by cash or check.

It depends on your exact pickup and delivery locations, vehicle size, open or enclosed transport, and the season. Spring is the busiest time. Request a free quote and you'll get a final price, good for 7 days.

I'm a snowbird. When should I book my trip home to Chicago?

Book 3 to 4 weeks ahead for March and April. That's when the biggest wave of Midwest snowbirds leaves Arizona.

Can you pick up from a 55-plus community in Arizona?

Yes. Many have gate or truck rules, so share those details when you book. If a big truck can't get in, the driver will meet you at the entrance or a nearby lot.

Can you deliver to downtown Chicago?

Yes. Because of parking and loading restrictions, the driver may meet you at a nearby lot instead of in front of your building.

Can you ship a car from Illinois back to Arizona?

Is my car insured during transport?

Do I have to pay upfront?

No. There's $0 due at booking. Once a carrier is assigned, you can pay a deposit and the balance to the driver at delivery by cash or check, or pay in full at that point.
