Shipping a Car From Alabama to Delaware
Birmingham to Wilmington is about 900 miles, a long day and a half of driving that ends on one of the busiest stretches of I-95 on the East Coast. Shipping your car lets you skip the traffic around Washington and Baltimore entirely.
Delaware is small, but people move there for very different reasons. Some are heading to Wilmington for banking and corporate jobs. Others are military families reporting to Dover Air Force Base. And more and more are retirees settling in Lewes, Rehoboth Beach, and the rest of Sussex County.
Whatever brings you there, we ship door-to-door with a final-price quote and $0 due at booking.

The Route
How Cars Get From Alabama to Delaware
There are two common ways north. One goes east on I-20 to Atlanta, then up I-85 through the Carolinas to Petersburg, Virginia, where trucks join I-95 through Richmond, Washington, and Baltimore into Wilmington. The other follows I-59 and I-75 to Knoxville and then I-81 up the Shenandoah Valley, cutting east toward Delaware in Pennsylvania or Maryland.
Once a truck reaches Wilmington, the rest of the state is close. Dover is about 45 minutes south on DE-1, and the beaches are about an hour past that. The carrier picks the path that fits its other stops, which is why you'll see transit times as a range.

Timing
When to Ship Alabama to Delaware
Beach season and Mid-Atlantic winters both shape this route.
Beach Season
From Memorial Day to Labor Day, weekend traffic on DE-1 into Lewes and Rehoboth is heavy. Weekday beach deliveries go much smoother.
Winter
Snow and ice in the Mid-Atlantic can slow trucks on I-95 and I-81 between December and March.
Hurricane Season
June through November affects both ends of this route: Alabama's Gulf Coast and the Delaware shore. Carriers wait out storms before moving.
Spring & Fall
Usually the easiest time to ship this route. Good weather, normal demand, and no beach traffic.
Pricing
How Much Does It Cost to Ship a Car From Alabama to Delaware?
Here's what determines the price on this route.
Distance
Huntsville to Wilmington is around 820 miles. Mobile to Rehoboth Beach is closer to 1,100.
North vs. South Delaware
New Castle County sits right on the I-95 corridor. Sussex County beach towns are off the main truck routes and can take longer to schedule.
Season
Summer is busy everywhere, and beach-season deliveries in Sussex County fill up fast.
Open or Enclosed
Open is the standard. Enclosed adds full protection from weather and road debris for nicer cars.
Vehicle Size
Full-size trucks and SUVs take more room on the trailer than sedans and cost a bit more to ship.
Date Flexibility
A flexible pickup window gives us more carriers to choose from, which usually means a better price.
Your Quote Is Your Final Price
Some companies advertise a low number and raise it once your car is waiting on a truck. We don't. The price we quote is the price you pay, with $0 due when you book.

Before You Ship & After You Arrive
A few Delaware-specific things worth knowing ahead of time.
Registering in Delaware
New residents generally have 60 days to title and register with the Delaware DMV, and vehicles usually need to pass an inspection at a DMV lane. Check dmv.de.gov for current requirements.
Beach Town Deliveries
Some beach communities have narrow streets or don't allow large trucks. If yours is one of them, we'll arrange a nearby meeting point.
Moving With the Military
We ship cars for service members and families reporting to Dover Air Force Base. Give us your report date and we'll plan around it.
Plan for a Gap
If you fly, you'll probably get there a day or two before your car. A short rental or rideshare covers the gap.
