Shipping a Car From Alabama to North Carolina
Birmingham to Charlotte is about 390 miles, a long morning on I-20 and I-85. Raleigh is closer to 555, and the coast is a full day's drive. North Carolina is wide, so where you're headed matters.
This is one of the busiest military routes we run. Soldiers and families move between Alabama and Fort Bragg, and Marines head to Camp Lejeune and Cherry Point. We also ship cars for job moves to Charlotte's banks and the Research Triangle, students at UNC, NC State, Duke, and App State, and retirees heading to the mountains or the coast.
Door-to-door, a final-price quote, and $0 due at booking.

The Route
How Cars Get From Alabama to North Carolina
Most trucks run I-20 east to Atlanta and then I-85 northeast through Greenville, South Carolina, into Charlotte. From there, I-85 keeps going to Greensboro and Durham, and I-40 heads to Raleigh. Fayetteville and Fort Bragg are usually reached from Charlotte or down I-95.
Western North Carolina is often reached a different way. Asheville and Boone deliveries from north Alabama sometimes go through Knoxville on I-40, though the Pigeon River Gorge stretch near the Tennessee line has had long closures in recent years. Coastal deliveries to Wilmington, Jacksonville, and the Outer Banks are the longest legs of the trip.

Timing
When to Ship Alabama to North Carolina
Military calendars and coastal weather shape this route most.
Hurricane Season
June through November can affect the Alabama Gulf Coast and North Carolina's coast. Carriers wait out storms before moving.
Summer PCS Season
The busiest time for moves to Fort Bragg and Camp Lejeune. Request your quote a couple of weeks before your report date.
Mountain Winters
Asheville and Boone can get snow and ice that close steep roads. Charlotte and the Triangle usually stay clear.
Spring & Fall
Usually the easiest time to ship. Fall leaf season does bring heavy weekend traffic to the mountains.
Pricing
How Much Does It Cost to Ship a Car From Alabama to North Carolina?
Here's what makes the biggest difference in price on this route.
Distance
Huntsville to Asheville is about 325 miles. Birmingham to Jacksonville is twice that.
Metro vs. Mountains & Coast
Charlotte, the Triad, and the Triangle are easy to schedule. Mountain towns and the Outer Banks take more planning.
Season
Summer PCS demand and hurricane season both affect timing. Spring and fall are smoothest.
Open or Enclosed
Open is the standard. Enclosed protects classics and luxury cars from weather and road debris.
Vehicle Size
Full-size trucks and SUVs take more trailer space than sedans, so they cost a bit more to ship.
Date Flexibility
I-85 is a busy truck corridor. A flexible pickup window helps us catch one already making the run.
Your Quote Is Your Final Price
The price we quote is the price you pay. No surprise fees after you book, and nothing is due until a carrier is assigned.

Before You Ship & After You Arrive
A few North Carolina-specific things worth knowing.
Registering in North Carolina
New residents generally have 60 days to title and register with the NCDMV. You'll need North Carolina insurance, and most vehicles need a state safety inspection, plus emissions in many counties. Check ncdot.gov/dmv for current rules.
Moving With the Military
We ship vehicles for soldiers and families heading to Fort Bragg, Marines at Camp Lejeune and Cherry Point, and airmen at Seymour Johnson AFB.
Mountain Deliveries
Steep, winding roads around Asheville, Boone, and Blowing Rock often can't fit a full car carrier. The driver will set up a meeting spot nearby.
Outer Banks Deliveries
The Outer Banks are a long way from the interstates, with limited bridges in and out. Summer weekends there are especially slow.

It depends on your exact pickup and delivery locations, vehicle size, open or enclosed transport, and the season. Request a free quote and you'll get a final price, good for 7 days.
Do you ship cars for military moves to Fort Bragg or Camp Lejeune?
Yes. This is one of our most common military routes. Give us your report date when you request a quote, and we'll plan around it.
Can you deliver to Asheville, Boone, or the mountains?
Yes. If your road is too steep or narrow for a big truck, the driver will meet you at an accessible spot nearby.

Do I have to pay upfront?
No. There's $0 due at booking. Once a carrier is assigned, you can pay a deposit and the rest to the driver at delivery by cash or check, or pay in full at that point.
