Shipping a Car From Alabama to Massachusetts
Birmingham to Boston is about 1,180 miles. Driving it takes two very long days, and you finish by trying to park in a city that wasn't built for cars. Shipping lets you fly into Logan and skip all of that.
A lot of the Alabama cars we ship to Massachusetts belong to students and young professionals. Boston has more colleges than almost any city in the country, and its biotech, healthcare, and tech jobs pull in people from all over the South. We also ship for airmen at Hanscom Air Force Base, families moving to the suburbs along I-495, and people heading to a place on Cape Cod.
Door-to-door, a final-price quote, and $0 due at booking.

The Route
How Cars Get From Alabama to Massachusetts
Most trucks take I-81 up through Virginia and Pennsylvania, switch to I-84 near Scranton, and cross Connecticut into Massachusetts at Sturbridge. From there, the Mass Pike (I-90) runs east to Worcester and Boston, and Springfield is just a few miles west.
Boston itself is the hard part. Narrow streets, low bridges on Storrow Drive, resident-only parking, and constant construction mean a full car carrier usually can't reach a city address. Most Boston deliveries meet at a nearby lot. Cape Cod deliveries cross the Sagamore or Bourne Bridge, which back up badly on summer weekends.

Timing
When to Ship Alabama to Massachusetts
A few dates on the Massachusetts calendar matter more than the weather.
September 1
Boston's big lease turnover day. Streets fill with moving trucks, parking is impossible, and deliveries take longer. Avoid it if you can.
Winter
Snow, nor'easters, and parking bans can slow deliveries from December through March. Expect a wider window.
Summer on the Cape
Weekend traffic over the Cape Cod bridges is brutal from June through August. Weekday deliveries go much smoother.
Spring & Fall
Usually the easiest time to ship. Good weather and normal demand, outside the late-August college rush.
Pricing
How Much Does It Cost to Ship a Car From Alabama to Massachusetts?
Here's what moves the price on this route.
Distance
Springfield is about 1,100 miles from Birmingham. Mobile to Boston is over 1,400.
City vs. Suburbs
Suburban addresses near I-90, I-495, and Route 128 are the easiest. In-city Boston and Cambridge deliveries almost always need a meeting spot.
Season
Late August, September 1, and winter storms all affect timing. Spring and fall are the smoothest.
Open or Enclosed
Open is the standard. Enclosed keeps road salt and slush off a nicer car in winter.
Vehicle Size
Full-size trucks and SUVs take more trailer space and cost a bit more to ship than sedans.
Date Flexibility
A flexible pickup window lets us catch a truck already headed to New England.

FAQ
Alabama to Massachusetts Car Shipping FAQs

Usually 3 to 6 days after pickup. Western and central Massachusetts are on the faster end. Boston, the Cape, and winter weather can add time.
How much does it cost to ship a car from Alabama to Massachusetts?
It depends on your exact pickup and delivery locations, vehicle size, open or enclosed transport, and the season. Request a free quote and you'll get a final price, good for 7 days.
Can you deliver to my apartment in Boston?
Usually the driver will meet you at a nearby lot instead. Most Boston and Cambridge streets can't fit a full car carrier, and parking rules are strict. They'll call ahead to coordinate.
Do I need an inspection after moving to Massachusetts?
Yes. Massachusetts requires a state inspection within 7 days of registering your car. Check the RMV website for current details.
Should I avoid shipping around September 1 in Boston?
If you can, yes. It's the city's biggest moving day, and streets are packed with trucks. A few days before or after is much easier.
Can you ship a car from Massachusetts back to Alabama?
Yes. Request a quote with your Massachusetts pickup address and your Alabama delivery address. It's door-to-door either way.
Is my car insured during transport?
Yes. Every carrier we work with must carry active cargo insurance. Your car's condition is noted on the Bill of Lading at pickup and checked again at delivery. Personal items left in the car aren't covered.
Do I have to pay upfront?
No. There's $0 due at booking. Once a carrier is assigned, you can pay a deposit and the remaining balance to the driver at delivery by cash or check, or pay in full at that point.
