Alabama to New York Auto Transport
Shipping a Car From Alabama to New York
"New York" covers a lot of ground. Birmingham to New York City is about 940 miles, Buffalo is around 910 by a completely different route, and Fort Drum near the Canadian border is over 1,000. Where in the state you're headed changes almost everything about the trip.
We ship Alabama cars to New York for all kinds of reasons: job moves to the city and its suburbs, students at Cornell, Syracuse, NYU, and the SUNY schools, cadets' families and staff at West Point, and a lot of soldiers heading to Fort Drum. Plenty of people are also moving back to upstate hometowns after time down south.
Door-to-door, a final-price quote, and $0 due at booking.

The Route
How Cars Get From Alabama to New York
For New York City and the Hudson Valley, trucks usually run I-81 up to Harrisburg and then I-78 across New Jersey. Albany deliveries continue up I-81 to Scranton and then I-84 and I-87. Syracuse and Fort Drum stay on I-81 almost the whole way north.
Western New York is a different trip. Buffalo and Rochester trucks often go through Louisville and Ohio, then pick up I-90 along Lake Erie. Long Island is its own challenge: commercial trucks aren't allowed on the parkways, so carriers stick to the Long Island Expressway and local truck routes.
Along the Way
- Birmingham → Knoxville~255 mi
- Knoxville → Roanoke~260 mi
- Roanoke → Harrisburg~250 mi

Timing
When to Ship Alabama to New York
Upstate winters and big moving seasons shape this route most.
Lake-Effect Snow
Buffalo, Rochester, Syracuse, and the Fort Drum area get some of the heaviest snow in the country. Expect wider windows from December through March.
Summer PCS Season
Summer is the busiest time for moves to Fort Drum and West Point. Request your quote a couple of weeks before your report date.
Late August
College move-in across the state fills up trucks fast. Book early if you're shipping a car to a student.
Spring & Fall
Usually the easiest time to ship, especially for upstate deliveries.
Pricing
How Much Does It Cost to Ship a Car From Alabama to New York?
Here's what makes the biggest difference in price on this route.
Where in New York
NYC, Buffalo, and Fort Drum are all New York, but they're very different trips. Your exact delivery city matters more than usual.
City Access
Manhattan and much of Brooklyn and Queens can't fit a full car carrier. Most city deliveries meet at a nearby lot.
Season
Lake-effect snow upstate and summer demand both affect timing. Spring and fall are usually smoothest.
Open or Enclosed
Open is the standard. Enclosed keeps road salt off a nicer car through a New York winter.
Vehicle Size
Full-size trucks and SUVs take more trailer space than sedans, so they cost a bit more to ship.
Date Flexibility
A flexible pickup window lets us catch a truck already headed north on I-81.
Your Quote Is Your Final Price
We quote what it actually takes to get your car to New York. That's the price you pay. It won't change after you book, and nothing is due up front.

Before You Ship & After You Arrive
A few New York-specific things worth knowing.
Registering in New York
New residents generally have 30 days to register with the New York DMV, and the car must pass a New York safety and emissions inspection soon after. Check dmv.ny.gov for current requirements.
NYC Deliveries
Tight streets, double parking, and strict rules make curbside delivery nearly impossible in much of the city. The driver will call ahead and meet you at a nearby lot.
Long Island Parkways
Commercial trucks are banned from the parkways because of low bridges. Expect the driver to use the LIE and truck routes, and plan for a little extra time.
Moving With the Military
We ship vehicles for soldiers and families reporting to Fort Drum and for staff and families at West Point. Give us your report date and we'll plan around it.
