Alabama to Idaho Auto Transport
Shipping a Car From Alabama to Idaho
Birmingham to Boise is roughly 2,180 miles. That covers the whole width of the Plains, the Wyoming high desert, and a corner of Utah. It's at least four days of driving, and in winter Wyoming can add another one without warning.
Idaho has been one of the fastest-growing states in the country, and a good share of the newcomers come from the South. We ship cars for families relocating to Boise, Meridian, and Nampa, people moving north to Coeur d'Alene, airmen heading to Mountain Home Air Force Base, and students at Boise State and the University of Idaho.
Fewer trucks run directly between Alabama and Idaho than to bigger markets, so this is a route where a broker really earns its keep. We find the carrier that's already heading that way.

The Route
How Cars Get From Alabama to Idaho
The usual path heads northwest to Memphis and St. Louis, then west on I-70 to Kansas City, up to Omaha, and across Nebraska and Wyoming on I-80. In northern Utah, trucks pick up I-84 and follow it into southern Idaho through Twin Falls to Boise.
Idaho Falls and Pocatello are usually reached on I-15 from Utah instead. North Idaho is its own animal. Coeur d'Alene and Sandpoint are closer to Spokane than to Boise, so those cars often come across Montana on I-90.

- St. Louis → Kansas City~250 mi

Timing
When to Ship Alabama to Idaho
On a route this long, Wyoming winters matter as much as Idaho weather.
Summer
Clear roads and the busiest moving season. On a route this long, request your quote 2 to 3 weeks ahead.
Fall
Often the sweet spot. The weather in Wyoming is still good, and there's less competition for space on trucks.
Winter on I-80
Snow and high winds close stretches of I-80 in Wyoming several times a winter. Closures usually last hours, but can add a day or two.
Hurricane Season
June through November on the Alabama Gulf Coast. A storm near Mobile can push a pickup back until it's safe.
Pricing
How Much Does It Cost to Ship a Car From Alabama to Idaho?
Distance is only part of it. Here's what affects the price on this route.
Distance
Birmingham to Idaho Falls is about 1,980 miles. Coeur d'Alene is closer to 2,400.
Fewer Direct Trucks
Idaho is a smaller market than Texas or California, so fewer trucks run this lane. That's the main reason pickup flexibility matters here.
Season
Winter weather on I-80 adds time and risk. Summer adds demand. Fall is usually the easiest to book.
Delivery Area
The Treasure Valley is the easiest part of Idaho to reach. Mountain towns like Sun Valley and McCall take more planning.
Open or Enclosed
Open transport is the affordable standard. Enclosed protects your car across 2,000 miles of weather and highway.
Vehicle Size
Full-size trucks and SUVs take more trailer space and weight capacity, so they cost more to ship.
Your Quote Is Your Final Price
On hard-to-fill routes like this one, some companies quote low and then can't find a truck at that price. We quote what it actually takes. That's the price you pay, with $0 due at booking.

Before You Ship & After You Arrive
A few Idaho-specific things worth knowing.
Registering in Idaho
Out-of-state vehicles need a VIN inspection before they can be titled in Idaho, and cars registered in Ada or Canyon County may need an emissions test. Check itd.idaho.gov for current rules.
North Idaho Deliveries
Coeur d'Alene, Post Falls, and Sandpoint often route through Spokane. Let us know if you're headed north so we can find the right carrier.
Moving With the Military
We ship cars for airmen and families reporting to Mountain Home Air Force Base. Give us your report date and we'll plan around it.
Plan for a Gap
With 5 to 8 days in transit, you'll probably beat your car there. Budget for a rental or rideshare for the first few days.

FAQ
Alabama to Idaho Car Shipping FAQs
How long does it take to ship a car from Alabama to Idaho?
Usually 5 to 8 days after pickup. Winter weather in Wyoming can add time, and North Idaho deliveries can take a little longer than Boise.
How much does it cost to ship a car from Alabama to Idaho?
It depends on your exact pickup and delivery locations, vehicle size, open or enclosed transport, and the season. Request a free quote and you'll get a final price, good for 7 days.
Why can it take longer to find a carrier for Idaho?
Fewer trucks travel directly between Alabama and Idaho than between bigger markets. A flexible pickup window lets us place your car on a truck that's already headed to the Mountain West.
Can you ship to Coeur d'Alene and North Idaho?
Yes. We deliver anywhere in Idaho, including Coeur d'Alene, Sandpoint, Lewiston, Moscow, Boise, Meridian, Nampa, Twin Falls, Pocatello, and Idaho Falls.
Is it worth shipping instead of driving to Idaho?
On a 2,000-mile trip, usually. You save four days of driving, hotel nights, gas, and a lot of wear on your car. And you don't have to cross Wyoming in January.
Can you ship a car from Idaho back to Alabama?
Yes. Request a quote with your Idaho pickup address and your Alabama delivery address. Every shipment is door-to-door.
Is my car insured during transport?
Yes. Every carrier we work with is required to carry active cargo insurance. Your car's condition is documented on the Bill of Lading at pickup and checked again at delivery. Personal items left in the car are not covered.
Do I have to pay upfront?
No. There's $0 due at booking. Once a carrier is assigned, you can pay a deposit and the rest to the driver at delivery by cash or check, or pay in full at that point so nothing is due at delivery.
