Shipping a Car From Alabama to Colorado
Birmingham to Denver is about 1,350 miles, and most of it is flat. You cross Mississippi or Tennessee, Missouri, and all of Kansas before the Rockies show up on the horizon. It's two hard days behind the wheel, or three if you want to enjoy any of it.
A lot of the Alabama cars we send to Colorado are military moves. Fort Carson, Peterson, and Schriever are all in the Colorado Springs area, and plenty of Huntsville's defense and aerospace folks end up out there at some point. We also ship for families relocating to the Denver metro, students heading to CU Boulder or Colorado State, and people buying a place in the mountains.
Every shipment is door-to-door, with a final-price quote and $0 due at booking.

The Route
How Cars Get From Alabama to Colorado
The most common path starts on I-22 to Memphis, follows I-55 up to St. Louis, then runs I-70 across Missouri and Kansas into Denver. Huntsville pickups often go through Nashville to St. Louis instead. Colorado Springs and Pueblo deliveries usually leave I-70 at Limon and head southwest, or come down I-25 from Denver.
Carriers loading in south Alabama sometimes go west through Dallas and up across the Texas Panhandle instead. Either way, most deliveries land on the Front Range, between Fort Collins and Pueblo. Mountain towns are doable, but they take more planning, especially in winter.
Along the Way
- Birmingham → Memphis~240 mi
- Memphis → St. Louis~285 mi
- St. Louis → Kansas City~250 mi
- Kansas City → Denver~600 mi
Approximate distances. The exact route depends on the carrier's other stops.
Timing
When to Ship Alabama to Colorado
Colorado weather shapes this route more than anything else. Here's what each season looks like.
Summer
The easiest time to drive, and the busiest time to ship. Roads are clear, but demand is high, so book a couple of weeks out.
Fall
Good weather on the Plains and usually easier scheduling. Early snow can hit the mountains as soon as October, though.
Winter
Front Range storms usually clear in a day or two. Mountain deliveries are another story: I-70 chain laws can slow trucks or keep big carriers off certain passes.
Spring
Denver can still get heavy snow in March and April. Keep your delivery date a little flexible.
Pricing
How Much Does It Cost to Ship a Car From Alabama to Colorado?
Where in Colorado you're headed matters as much as how far it is. Here's what moves the price.
Front Range vs. Mountains
Denver, Colorado Springs, and Fort Collins are easy for carriers to reach. Vail, Aspen, Telluride, and Steamboat take more time and sometimes a smaller truck, which affects the price.
Distance
Huntsville to Denver is the short end at around 1,280 miles. Montgomery to Fort Collins is closer to 1,500.
Season
Summer demand and winter mountain conditions both affect pricing. Late spring and early fall tend to be the easiest times to ship.
Open or Enclosed
Open transport is the standard. Enclosed keeps your car out of the de-icer and road grime that come with a Colorado winter.
Vehicle Size
Full-size trucks and SUVs, which are everywhere in Colorado, cost a bit more to ship than sedans.
Date Flexibility
A wider pickup window means more trucks to choose from, which usually means a faster match and a better price.
Your Quote Is Your Final Price
The price we quote is the price you pay. We don't bump it up after you book, and you don't pay anything until a carrier is assigned.

Before You Ship & After You Arrive
A few Colorado-specific things worth knowing.
Registering in Colorado
New residents generally have 90 days to register. Out-of-state vehicles need a VIN verification, and cars in the Denver metro and parts of the northern Front Range need an emissions test. Check your county motor vehicle office for details.
Mountain Deliveries
If your new place is up a steep or narrow road, a full-size carrier probably can't get there. Plan to meet the driver at an accessible spot nearby, like a grocery store or gas station lot off the highway.
Moving With the Military
We ship vehicles for service members reporting to Fort Carson, Peterson and Schriever Space Force Bases, Buckley, and the Air Force Academy. Share your report date and we'll plan around it.
Think About Tires
Colorado has traction laws on I-70 in the mountains during winter. If you'll be driving up there, sort out your tires before the snow, not after your car arrives.

FAQ
Alabama to Colorado Car Shipping FAQs
How long does it take to ship a car from Alabama to Colorado?
Usually 4 to 6 days after pickup. Denver and Colorado Springs are on the faster end. Mountain towns and winter weather can add time.
How much does it cost to ship a car from Alabama to Colorado?
It depends on your exact pickup and delivery locations, vehicle size, open or enclosed transport, and the season. Mountain deliveries cost more than Front Range deliveries. Request a free quote and you'll get a final price, good for 7 days.
Can you deliver to ski towns like Vail or Breckenridge?
Yes. Mountain deliveries just take more planning, especially in winter. If your road isn't suitable for a big truck, the driver will meet you somewhere nearby that is.
Is open transport okay for a winter move to Colorado?
Yes. Open carriers run all year. Your car may arrive with some road grime, so plan on a wash. If you're shipping a classic or a car you want spotless, go enclosed.
Do you ship cars for military moves to Fort Carson?
Yes. We regularly ship for service members and families heading to Fort Carson and the Space Force bases around Colorado Springs. Give us your report date when you request a quote.
Can you ship a car from Colorado back to Alabama?
Yes. Request a quote with your Colorado pickup address and your Alabama delivery address. It's door-to-door either way.
Is my car insured during transport?
Yes. Every carrier we work with must carry active cargo insurance. Your car's condition is noted on the Bill of Lading at pickup and checked again at delivery. Personal items left in the car aren't covered.
Do I have to pay upfront?
No. There's $0 due at booking. When a carrier is assigned, you can pay a deposit and the rest to the driver at delivery by cash or check, or pay in full at that point.
