Shipping a Car From Alabama to Georgia
Birmingham to Atlanta is only about 150 miles. You could drive it before lunch. So why ship? Usually because the drive itself isn't the problem. It's getting two cars there at once, flying in for a new job, or not wanting to spend half a day on I-285 with a car full of boxes.
We move a lot of cars between these two states. Families relocate to the Atlanta suburbs for work, students head to Georgia Tech, UGA, and Georgia State, and military families move between Alabama posts and Fort Stewart, Robins Air Force Base, and Kings Bay. Atlanta's big dealer market means we ship plenty of cars back to Alabama, too.
Door-to-door, a final-price quote, and $0 due at booking.

The Route
How Cars Get From Alabama to Georgia
Almost every truck from Birmingham runs I-20 east through Anniston and across the state line into Atlanta. From Montgomery, it's I-85 northeast through Auburn and LaGrange. Huntsville pickups usually go up through Chattanooga and down I-75.
Past Atlanta, Macon and Savannah deliveries continue on I-75 and I-16, and Augusta is straight out I-20. The tricky part of this route isn't the miles. It's Atlanta traffic. A delivery inside the Perimeter can run hours behind on a bad afternoon, so the driver will call ahead with an updated time.
Along the Way
- Birmingham → Anniston~60 mi
- Anniston → Atlanta~90 mi
- Atlanta → Macon~85 mi
- Macon → Savannah~165 mi
Approximate distances. The exact route depends on the carrier's other stops.
Timing
When to Ship Alabama to Georgia
It's a short route, but weather and the school calendar still matter.
Spring
Severe storms and tornado warnings are common across both states. Carriers stop for dangerous weather, which can move a pickup by a day.
Summer & Back to School
The busiest time of year, and college move-in in August adds to it. Request your quote a week or two ahead.
Hurricane Season
June through November can affect pickups around Mobile and deliveries near Savannah and the Georgia coast.
Winter
Snow is rare, but a little ice can shut down Atlanta roads. Keep a day of flexibility in January and February.
Pricing
How Much Does It Cost to Ship a Car From Alabama to Georgia?
Short routes cost less overall, but these things still move the price.
Distance
Montgomery to Columbus is under 100 miles. Mobile to Savannah is more than five times that.
Pickup & Delivery Access
Metro addresses near the interstates are quickest. North Georgia mountain roads and tight in-town Atlanta streets take more planning.
Date Flexibility
Many trucks on this lane are passing through on longer trips. A flexible window helps us catch one.
Open or Enclosed
Open is the affordable standard. Enclosed is there for classics, exotics, and high-end cars.
Vehicle Size
Full-size trucks and SUVs take more trailer space than sedans and cost a bit more to ship.
Number of Vehicles
Moving two cars at once is common on this route. Let us know and we'll quote them together.
Your Quote Is Your Final Price
The price we quote is the price you pay. No hidden fees, no last-minute increases, and $0 due when you book.

Before You Ship & After You Arrive
A few Georgia-specific things worth knowing.
Registering in Georgia
New residents have 30 days to register with their county tag office, and cars registered in the 13 metro Atlanta counties need an emissions test. Check dor.georgia.gov for current requirements.
Atlanta Deliveries
Many in-town streets in neighborhoods like Midtown, Virginia-Highland, and Decatur are tight for a big carrier. The driver may meet you at a nearby lot instead.
Moving With the Military
We ship vehicles for service members and families heading to Fort Stewart, Hunter Army Airfield, Robins AFB, Moody AFB, and Naval Submarine Base Kings Bay.
Two Cars, One Move
Driving two cars 150 miles means two drivers and someone to get back home. Shipping one or both often makes the move a lot simpler.

Usually 1 to 2 days after pickup. Savannah and coastal Georgia can take up to 3.
How much does it cost to ship a car from Alabama to Georgia?
It depends on your exact pickup and delivery locations, vehicle size, open or enclosed transport, and how flexible your dates are. Request a free quote and you'll get a final price, good for 7 days.
Is it worth shipping a car such a short distance?
It often is when you're moving more than one vehicle, flying in, or can't spare a day for a round trip. Compare your quote to the time, gas, and return travel it would take to drive it yourself.
How soon can my car be picked up?
It depends on carrier availability near you. Metro pickups along I-20, I-65, and I-85 are usually quick to schedule, and a flexible pickup window helps.
Can you deliver to Savannah or the Georgia coast?
Yes. We deliver anywhere in Georgia, including Savannah, Brunswick, St. Simons Island, Augusta, Macon, Columbus, Athens, and the entire Atlanta metro.
Can you ship a car from Georgia back to Alabama?
Yes. Request a quote with your Georgia pickup address and your Alabama delivery address. It's door-to-door either way.
Is my car insured during transport?
Yes. Every carrier we work with must carry active cargo insurance. The driver records your car's condition on the Bill of Lading at pickup, and you check it together at delivery. Personal items left in the car aren't covered.
Do I have to pay upfront?
No. There's $0 due at booking. Once a carrier is assigned, you can pay a deposit and the balance to the driver at delivery by cash or check, or pay in full at that point.
